Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Steven Seagal and Eddie Griffin costar in this deadly quest for revenge by Simon Ballister (Seagal) the father of a good cop who happened to see the wrong thing and was killed in a drive by (shooting.) Determined to find out who killed his son, Simon moves into the worst part of town to plot out his own method of justice. Led astray, Simon starts out on his wild goose chases before he finally is able to figure out who killed his son. Oh and Simon just happens to be trained in special forces, armed and ready for anything that comes his way. Including the special welcome he gets when he first moves in over a small store. Two gang members pop over for a little chat and lay down the laws since he has invaded their turf. He sends them on their way, bleeding and hurting to spread the word that Simon is in town to accomplish one thing. Find out who killed his son.
In cahoots with the East Side Gang is the detective in charge of solving the homicide of Max, Simons only son. Simon catches on quick that something isn't right because the detective denies ever meeting Max. Yet, Matt had a business card with the detectives cell number written on the back... in the detectives own writing.
Walking the streets of the hood isn't the smartest thing white boy Seagal can do, but he quickly proves that he can outlast the large quantities of gang members he comes against. The question is... will he find out who killed his son before he winds up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up joining his son? He promises his ex-wife he will find the killer and provide justice. But can he keep this promise?
Steven Seagal shines with his marshal arts choreographed scenes. Very well done!

Actors:
Steven Seagal is supreme in this movie. I see moments where his tough guy, special forces hardening softens to allow him moments to grieve. He has a touching scene where he talks about wanting to say something to his son, Max and then remembers that he isn't here anymore.
Eddie Griffin plays Armand Tucker and he is great. He is the leader of the biggest and toughest gang. He shows a brutal control of the gang and no mercy with regards to mess ups. He tangles with the detective and they conspire together a brilliant if not diabolical plan to destroy the other two gangs in town. Working with a crooked cop leaves Armand suspicious and his thirst for power may wind up being his downfall. Once Simon Ballister is involved the three men will have a showdown... I won't tell you who is left standing but Simon does suprise me.
This film intertwines comedy and one liners (by Armand and Simon) that stayed with me long after the credits roll. Its one of those movies where bad vs. good isn't really the issue. Its about plain and simple justice. Seeking the person who killed Simons son and dishing out Seagall's particular version of justice which is all bad boy! Will his vengeance get the best of Simon or the best of the killer? I'm not telling... that ruins the review!
Not appropriate for children!
Rated R for language (The F words seems to be Armands favorite), violence (hello, its Steven Seagall not Mary Poppins) and some drug content this is not a movie I would let my 14 year old daughter watch. (She's the oldest of 5)
