Pros:Um...not one!
Cons:Just about everything!
The Bottom Line: Please people, use ANY other company (I like register.com). They are poorly run and it may takes weeks to have updates made to your account!
I just can not believe a company with service like this is still around. They used to be pretty much a monopoly and maybe people are scared to try someone new. Let me tell you, it doesn't have to be this difficult! This is probably more of a rant than an actual review - I have no advice to give but save ALL the numbers they give you, you will need them for a hope that they can actually find your info later.
My first domain name was purchased through my host, if I had known then what I know now I would have used just about any other company to make this purchase. I have since switched hosts (well, tried to) and getting Network Solutions to update my DNS info has been a nightmare. I first submitted the request through their confusing email process, and I thought everything was done. This process includes an email being sent to you, but you really have no way of knowing the change is going through except waiting.
So, I waited three days and still no update. I got on the phone and it turns out that my they had somehow gotten my email address wrong and could not verify the requests. So I need to fax all the info along with a copy of my driver's license to prove it's me, and wait another 3-5 days for the update. Fair enough. Three more days go by and still no update so I call again. The rep on the phone was pretty much useless and assumed that they must have never gotten the fax. After a little searching, she found that they did get the fax, (they can only search for the fax by the fax number, not the domain to be updated. This is not easy if you are faxing from a company that masks phone numbers) and it was in the cue to be updated. You see, the faxes go to a different dept. and she could not actually make the update herself. We're talking about changing TWO LINES of info and adding in a new email address. I wait several more days. Still, my site is down and I get an email from their customer service saying that the info I faxed them must have been wrong...even though it was already in the system to be updated. I call again and spend another hour on the phone trying to explain what is going on, they finally find my fax and tell me yes they did receive it, but it takes time to be processed. The representative told me that it generally takes more than the 3-5 days advertised, to update info via fax (which is what they required) it can take up to two weeks! In a time where updates can happen instantaneously with other companies, how can it take 2 weeks to update 2 lines of info?
So I haven't had my site for two weeks, and I am prepared for another week or so. This is just too long to be acceptable. Assuming they ever get my email address correct, I will be switching to register.com ASAP!
