but I did a M-n-L III review on, of all things, a CSS pocket reference (which was lean and mean in its own right).

Now, if someone wishes to host "Large 'n In Charge I", we will kick some serious butt...

I don't know about that. There are some book writiers here that are... ummm... loquacious. Movie writers too. I could easily imagine a few people turning in 50 page research papers for that one.

In fact, you'd have to limit people to a single entry each so as not to overload the poor Epinion servers.

My thanks for all the warm compliments and kind words in the comments below.

But do recognize that it is really all of _you_ that make these 'lean-n-mean' efforts the successes that they are.

At those times when I am frustrated and chagrined by what goes on here at Epinions, I can always recall this 'team-building' effort ( thank you Phil! ) and realize that there are indeed many members here that I am proud to associate with every day.

For that I again give you all my thanks.

if the game is Lean and Mean, no contest. Music writers lose every time. Now, if someone wishes to host "Large 'n In Charge I", we will kick some serious butt...

Hey Tom, Just a few words of thanks. (Reply to this comment)

I am partners in a company that promotes team building activities. It is a time when employees have friendly competition amongst themselves and also with other departments they do not usually work with on a personal basis. We plan and execute events with personal growth and community building as our goal.

This lean-n-mean W/O you offered is a perfect example of what we provide as team event coordinators and what business owners spend many thousands of dollars to bring to their companies.

This W/O worked first at building personal skills and then continued on into a friendly competition that manifests itself as a community building event.

We worked at writing reviews in a more concise manner. On a personal note that is helpful for my reviews are never lacking for words. This exercise helped me hone my skills and lighten the load of a review by my trying to eliminate unnecessary words and also repetitive thoughts and text. I hope to take this to all my reviews.

This W/O also opened my eyes to other writers who I may not see or appreciate at other times. I believe many of us tend to pretty much stick around our own comfort zones. This is also true in writing. The friendly competition of this W/O coaxed me to write in categories I am not all that familiar with and I believe it's good for all of us to reach out and stretch once in a while.

Tom I just want to term the Sleeper54 Lean-n-mean III W/O a complete success as a team building event.

I am however a bit disappointed in that I did not win a tiara.

Thanks Tom for the time and effort you put into this W/O. You are a shining star in this community.

I was just teasing too. But, unfortunately there I was, tanks loaded and on the bluff waiting to fire, and then the firing solution software failed and manual override wouldn't work.

Congrats on another win, movie folks!

No need to apologize, Tom. I should not have said anything. I was just trying to express the frustration I was feeling and still do in not being able to post things and to have what did go up, appear incorrectly.

Just a quick note that I have not forgotten about this!

I unexpectedly had to work this w/e to cover for a co-worker whose
father passed late this week.

I will get to this as soon as I can tonight or perhaps tomorrow night.

And a quick note of thanks for those commenting in a positive
sense about this silly exercise. I actually found myself looking
forward to hosting this year and I am sure 2005 will be the same,
God willing.

I agree! I think the competition is fun and encourages some folks to get involved who might not have. I know that it helped K&F make a decent showing this year as opposed to last year. :)

I see no reason to view this one any different than the past two years: it was a blast, and I found some new folks through the competition that I will continue to read and get to know. Books did NOT lose . Not by a long shot... not if the books writers had any fun at all. I know I did.

.....absolutely right Doc....this is an exercise in fun. I had a blast and just love, love, love the competition to add to it. Even without us competing (for fun) I would be entering mostly as a challenge to myself. I'm amazed at how wordy I get sometimes. lol

Tom.......thank you so much for hosting once again. You do an awesome job and I'm sure it takes a great deal of time for you to run this write-off. It is appreciated. It is a great reminder to all of us that Very Helpful reviews don't have to be thousands of words long. Great Job Tom!!!

We'll get 'em next year. :) Merriest of Christmas and a very Blessed New Year everyone.....kath

We'll win anyway, but the second of these was posted today. It should be linked, but not counted. The first (stealth) one was during the season, and should, of course, be counted for Books.

And our leader had computer problems, too. For that matter, epinions was unavailable yesterday afternoon when I wanted to post things.

So it's like this man... I go to DC and my puter wouldn't pick up Tom's DSL for some reason.. and his so badly infected I'm surprised it was running at all.. soo I kinda got caught up in chasing dowen his various virii and spyware and finaklly had to do a wipe and reload on his machine.

So. That's where I was on the final push. Lettin gmy troops down.

*hangs head in shame*

BUT! I see we did win anyway thanks to lots of great folks, but mostly to my much adored Capt. Stevie-baby.

To books I would like to say this:
This is all about fun. There is no real tiara or prizes. When I started taunting during the first L-N-M it really was all in fun to get more folks interested in this and tighten up some of those long-arsed reviews... we lost gracefully that year.... I see no reason to view this one any different than the past two years: it was a blast, and I found some new folks through the competition that I will continue to read and get to know. Books did NOT lose . Not by a long shot... not if the books writers had any fun at all. I know I did.

Here's looking forward to next year!

Hey there Kevin...

No, no, no...

My point was not that anyone specifically 'throws up' reviews.

My point was not wanting others on the site to think that 'lean-n-mean' as a whole is that type of effort.

My sincere apologies for wording that so poorly that you ( and others! ) might misunderstand what I meant.

As I said in that comment, I do not think anyone is putting less than their best efforts up for this 'lean-n-mean' exercise.

Again, my apologies.

Kevin,

Have you visited gracef's books forum to ask to have the books you are looking for added? CLs are usually more than happy to help with that.
