In which Ben chimes in on topics that have already been covered rather well by other people...

Sounds like a blast! You got to meet so many cool people! I've already had the priviledge of meeting Mike and Kristina and the Eps staff, but I'm jealous that you got to meet a bunch of others who weren't in Boston.

Cheers,
Becky

Well, if the powers that be would smile upon us midwesterners again (and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, despite my lingering feelings that we'll have to wait a while), I certainly would want them to wait at least until April or so, if not even a little later. Spring is awfully nice in these parts, but winter can be such a pain, especially for out of towners...

If the powers that be at epinions would be so kind as to schedule the next meet and greet (that ISNT in Dallas) for March or April, we could spring for airline seats instead of carseats - tax returns and company bonuses are spring events for us

and I would drive onethousandfifty miles
and I would drive onethousandfifty more

You people are trying to kill us aren't you? A Madison MnG would add about an hour to the drive from Texas... but Minneapolis/St. Paul would add at least 2-1/2 or 3... that's over 1050miles drive from our little suburban home.

My butt can't take it... (but it will if it has to)

Hello fellow Wisconsin dweller!

Nice write-up! I'm sorry that we didn't really get to talk at the M&G; I wasn't there very long. But thanks for the nice comments about me. Hanging out with adults is nothing new for me, I'm very used to it. It was lots of fun. :)

Cheers!

I had no idea... (Reply to this comment)

...that Empire had gone national.

And though we did get Milwaukee stations, I'm not sure that I have any Milwaukee-specific TV memories... except for that weather dude - Taff, Taft, something or other - coming to our school one time to teach us about tornadoes and tornado safety.

Was "Shock Theatre" on a Milwaukee station? It was on at noon on Saturday (I think), and it was all 50s B horror movies. Watched that every weekend.

And a Madison MNG would kick butt. And then, WE could host a barbecue! Woo-hooooo...

Hey don't tell me how good a Twin Cities meet and greet would be, you're preaching to the choir. Tell the higher ups. I'll be sure to do the same. (Or hey, even a Madison meet and greet. Madison would be a kick ass site, but that might be pushing it just a little...)

You couldn't be more true.

Sure, personality comes through a little bit in our reviews, but it's a skewed, filtered version of our personalities. It's the little mannerisms and the voice that come through when we all meet in person that finally completes the picture of who we are. You all so much more real to me now. What a great experience meeting you all.

Twin Cities? Sure, I'm up for it. If enough of us express an interest in holding a M 'n G there, hopefully the powers that be will take notice and schedule one there in the next year. After all, they already hit California twice, why not hit the midwest twice.

The eight hundred 5-8-8 - 2-3-hundred version came about a much more recently when Empire went national. Old schoolers like Paul and I remember when it was just a local carpet shop...

The Empire commecials did float on up to milwaukee when I was still a kid, so that jingle in burned into the memories of after-school cartoons. I'm guessing the grand prize game comes from Bozo, but that one didn't make it quite as far north.

Since you grew up halfway between milwaukee and chicago, do you have milwaukee TV memories too, like Albert the Alley Cat? (That's the only one that comes to mind at the moment, but I'm sure there's plenty more.)

Anyways, meeting you was great, and we definitely have to do it again. I get over to Madison a few times a year, so I'll certainly have to look you up. (And your CD should be done by this weekend...)

Hey Ben,

Awesome job on the review, and to repeat what all the music folks said, it would've been nice to have you at the Rusty Dog (Mike's name for the Blue Frog).

Take it easy.

we didn't actually get to talk, but I know I saw you, as you look just like your picture. Sorry about our one way streets in Chicago, as I know they are a pain in the butt. I enjoyed your write up and am glad that you made it back safely!

My best,
Deborah~

Glad you also enjoyed yourself (though I agree it would have been nice to have had you at the Blue Frog also).

In any case, I had a great time even if you did kick my butt (twice, I think) in VR.

I keep reading the reviews of this event and I'm just jealous. Small children keep me from traveling even so far as to Chicago. Any way that I can bribe someone to do one of these in Minneapolis or St. Paul? Please??? It sounds like you had sooooo much fun!

Thanks for the great description of events...

5-8-8 2-3-hundred EM-PIIIIIIIIRE

So what does it mean that this commercial currently runs on Dallas TV and radio? (it's actually eight-hundred 5-8-8 2-3-hundred EM-PIIIIIIIIRE here, but close enough....)

Just wondering.

Glad you liked the CD, and I'm looking forward to hearing yours. Let me know when it's ready and I'll shoot you my address.

Growing up along the WI/IL border, I always thought it was totally normal to throw change out the window - and I always took it for granted that radio stations like WXRT existed in the world. Every time I go to Chicago, I have a flood of Chicago-based flashbacks.

Like...

5-8-8 2-3-hundred EM-PIIIIIIIIRE

Or...

it's time for the GRAND! PRIZE! GAME!

Or...

Okay, well that's really the extent of my flood, but it certainly feels flood-ish.

Definitely let me know if you ever make it out to Madison.
