Oh these songs will never grow old. Music is such a wonderful soother for the soul and R&R brings back so many memories of a more gentle time of life for me. :)
Thanks for listing these!

Thanks for the comments. Of course it is my subjective list and there are several songs you might substitute for the ones on my list. God Only Knows would be a great sub for California Girls and Otis Redding's original version of Respect (he wrote it) is wonderful stuff but not the same as what Aretha did to it....
Thanks for the reads and glad to remind you of this and other great music again.
I just saw the Rolling Stone Magazine list and although many of the same songs are on thier list of 500 I am surprised a few on my list were not mentioned at all and that several pure blues, pure country, hip-hop and many light aor rock songs got onto the list. I like several Fleetwood Mac and Eagle songs but they weren't anywhere close to my top 50 and probably wouldn't have made it on a top 100 list of mind either. Interesting to compare...
Enjoy...

I think my own list (Reply to this comment)

would have a bit more in the way of moder influences near the top, but I was very happy to see your inclusion of Sympathy For the Devil. I think it's a much maligned song that has always resonated quite deeply with me for spiritual as well as social reasons.
Great list!

That last chord.... (Reply to this comment)

...in A Day of the Life makes that song. I love how its sound just resonates for 20 or so seconds.
Thanks for the fun read. Liked many songs on the list.

I think (Reply to this comment)

that Lennon completmented McCartney more often than he complimented him... but I'd take Otis Redding over the Beatles any day (and "Sloop John B" or "God Only Knows" over "California Girls" and "Call Me" for an Al Green entry, and... but that would be my list, and there would be overlaps such as "Layla" and "Light My Fire").

Very interesting List indeed (Reply to this comment)

Well 1 out of 2 is not bad. I was correct on "Born To Be Wild", too bad "Spirit In The Sky" didn't make YOUR list but still an outstanding list just the same.

Wall of Sound (Reply to this comment)

#19 Be My Baby --The Ronnettes Ground-breaking 1963 song.
Ah, I love the Wall of Sound... I heard that when Brian Wilson heard this song for the first time, he was so moved by the music that he had to pull his car over to the side of the road. It's amazing how fresh it sounds to this day. Same with your #1 pick. That song give me chills and goosebumps probably more than any other, especially if you hear it on really good speakers.
Great list!
