Christmas Newsletter Online (The Sequel)
Nov 27 '04 (Updated Dec 02 '04)
The Bottom Line The saga of the Christmas newsletter continues...and continues...and continues...and continues...yadayadayada...
Special announcement!!!
Yes, I know that I'm supposed to be upgrading this in a 100% scroll-down order, but I need to make an exception here to let you know that the target-equals-blank feature now works here, meaning that these links will open up in new windows!!!
I'm hoping to get around to upgrading other things I've written (at least, the most current ones) where this will work with them as well.
But, anyway, this is a start, so enjoy!!!
Whoops! Maybe, I've spoken too soon, because this didn't work the last time I tried it.
I checked the editing, and it was still in there.
Anyway, I think it's time that it gets to working 100% of the time! How about it!?!
November 27, 2004
With the exception of a few individuals, families, institutions, etc. that I'm still gathering up exact current addresses for, the majority of my snail-mail Christmas newsletters went out this week. I think it was Wednesday when I mailed them, and I've already heard from several people saying that they'd received them.
As at least some of you reading this already know, this is serving as a sort of ongoing addition to my snail-mail greetings.
When I began writing this newsletter, I was actually writing one for 2003--one that I ended up not mailing because I was both too busy with other things (e.g. preparing for Daddy's LOA from the nursing home to spend the holidays with us and spending quality time with him and others when the time came) and, then, the weather was often too slick for me to get out and mail them, anyway.
Oh well! No problem! I would just send them very late--perhaps, in the spring.
But spring came in with a lot on my plate, as my dad had passed away that February 2. I was, for one thing, busy writing thank you notes to those who had sent flowers, cards, and/or food and/or had come to pay their respects.
And life began to move on.
So, eventually, I got to the place where I decided that I would simply create my current newsletters and staple them to the ones I'd meant for last year.
Of course, the ones I'd meant for last year contained instructions to go to this piece (which I had now renamed)
Christmas Newsletter--Double Issue--2003 & 2004--And Actually EARLY, No Less!!!
Anyway, I think it would be a great idea to go there, as it contains information, thoughts, etc. that I want to share.
However, I wanted to write this sequel in order to make this easier to find and to have the updates all going in one direction: down the page!!!
In a little bit, I'm going to link the original newsletter to this one, because that will be the way that people who received my snail-mail greetings will be arriving here.
The following is a message to anyone who is a member of Epinions.com (either already or someone joining after being led here by my newsletter or some other means):
Since this will, hopefully, be read by many people, this is a great place to share some of your favorite URLs. I'm going to expect you to be responsible when doing this and not include URLs to sites containing porn, bomb-building instructions, racist material, and other ugly things.
I won't delete them--though I can't say that either myself or someone else might not report you, and the material will be deleted automatically when you're no longer a member here.
Anyway, what I'm looking for are URLs going to some of your favorite pieces of writing (your own or those of others; written here or elsewhere); websites; etc.
I also welcome links to your online stores, if you have them to share.
Just include them in this comment section so that others will be able to see them!!!
You can return and do this as many times as you'd like to (as long as you share something new instead of SPAM-ing).
Some suggestions:
reviews of toys, books, and other things that might make nice Christmas presents
favorite recipes and the stories behind them
Christmas memories, traditions, etc.
things that are nice to read that don't necessarily relate to Christmas
Also, if you celebrate some other holiday besides Christmas (e.g. Jewish, Islamic, Winter Solstice celebrations), feel free to share URLs to your stories, too.
Anyway, I hope to find my comment section here filling way up, because you never know how many lives what you have to share will touch!!!
This piece (as far as any new updates from me in its body) will wrap up on The Twelfth Night or the day after, but feel free to keep adding to its comment section!
Anyway, I'd better sign off and go create the link in the original newsletter that will take you here, but, before I do, here's a link to a special piece I wrote here a little earlier today:
A Christmas Gift For All Of You: The Sharing Of Three Special Stories
Will touch back and let you know when I get the link made that will take people reading the original newsletter here...
November 27, 2004 (a little later)
Well! I've made a link to this sequel at the top of my original newsletter.
In the original, additions scrolled from bottom (earliest) to top (most current)--at least, for the most part, I think.
In this one, I'll update so that the more you scroll down the more current you get.
The comments, of course, go in just the opposite direction.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone new here to navigate better--frankly, will help old-timers to navigate better, too.
In case you're wondering what took so long between when I said I was going to update and when I actually did, I stopped to eat a delicious late lunch from Arby's.
This is what I had:
Market Fresh Martha's Vinyard Salad
Arby's Super
and a serving of whatever it is they call their poppers (Hot Bites, I think).
Had some of their delicious lemonade to drink, and I'm still enjoying the ice cubes from that.
Also ate three of those nuggets with the almonds in their centers that are put out by Hershey and am about to eat a banana.
Making up for lost time after not eating anything since last night.
That's about it for now...
November 28, 2004
Going to be in and out for the next several days--even though I'll probably still be keeping my computer running (unless I get kicked off) so it will be nice and handy when I AM home.
Anyway, I'm glad to see more people arriving here.
I want to share a piece that I came across for the simple reason that it makes me so ANGRY!!! What is the matter with people, anyway!?!
One of the best Christmas presents you could give would be to do your part to put a stop to stuff like this:
The Day I Fought Back by annexation
November 29, 2004
See you back here in a week or so!!!
When I get back, I'll catch you up some!
http://www.hoosierpoetplus.com
Wouldn't it be nice if URLs from the outside could also be turned into links!?!
Remember: We didn't always have the target-equals-blank option--or even the option of making links in our reviews at one time--so you never know what the future will bring!!!
Laters...
November 30, 2004
It's hard to believe that we're in the last month of this year--and, also, hard to believe that I'm still not settled in at home for good (that is, until next spring).
Anyway, I'm going to be leaving for a few days. When I come back, I hope to find my comment section filled with all kinds of wonderful URLs for those who read this.
I hope, too, that you'll read my rant and contribute to the comment section there. This is a very important issue to me.
Oh yes! Sometimes, those new windows pop and, other times, they don't. But I've set every one of them in this newsletter up with the target-equals-blank option, so that they should do as I want them to at least part of the time.
Catch you next week!
December 2, 2004
Under the heading of Motels From Hell!!! , I have ended up not only talking about what the title implies but I've also included links to about the last five (don't have time to check the number for sure) items I've written here, along with a link to a piece (by a favorite nurse named Di whom many of us know and love) that tells, in part, about what you might find in a motel drawer.
Now, when I was a baby and we stayed somewhere without a crib, I could be found in a motel drawer catching my zeez--something that wouldn't be advisable for me to do these days! LOLOLOL
Anyway, I'm serious about getting out of here and back to my retreat later this afternoon/evening for one more glorious and refreshing week--meaning that I also have plans to write a glowing report about my "condo" shortly after returning home.
Well, for now, I have errands to run (as has been said..."places to go and people to see"...as well as..."I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep"...), so I need to sign off from here.
Before I leave out for good, I'll take one last peek and see if anyone has left any comments, etc.
Remember, the snail-mail part of this newsletter has gone/will be going out to a whole slew of people, many of which have access to the Internet, so this would be a great time to introduce yourselves to them by leaving URLs to nice reviews, websites, stories, etc. in my comment section!
Will get back with you next week...
