Nicole Kidman deserves a lot of credit for this film. In the Others, Kidman portrays a mother of two children who are fatally allergic to the sun. Her servants disappeared, and suddenly a trio of an old man, old woman, and mute girl appear at Kidman's doorstep and offer their services. Of course, she accepts and puts them immediately to work. Little does she know the truth about her new servants. Soon strange things begin to happen and Kidman fears that there are ghosts in her house. She tries to convince her children that there is nothing to fear and that there are no ghosts. All this is to no avail because she herself is scared of the ghosts. The new servants know the answers, but do they tell their mistress? No, they keep all the secrets hidden from Kidman. In the end, the mysteries are revealed.
I found The Others to be an intensely eerie movie, but not as thrilling as I was led to believe. Although the ending is surprising, I did not think it was scary at all. Most people say that they were on the edge of their seat while watching The Others, but I definitely was not. It is a hair raising movie, but not the best and certainly not too thrilling. I enjoyed watching it, but in retrospect, I should have waited until it came out on video.
