Re: Great compilation (Reply to this comment)

Mike and Vodkaboy,
Glad you liked the list. As for Deep Purple, I always liked the band, and I thought Live in Japan was good for what it was, but not necessarily one of the best out there.

Great compilation (Reply to this comment)

I would have put Deep Purple's Made In Japan in the top twenty, or possibly the later "Live In Japan" double set which has more of the gigs from which MIJ was taken, but otherwise no argument!

I don't think you'll find much in the liner notes...but I know Gene and Paul have joked a lot about Alive being seriously overdubbed at the very least
And I agree completely about Zeppelin...How the West Was Won is completely superior to SRTS

I haven't heard How the West Was Won yet, although I've heard good things about it. Thanks for the comment!

go against the grain and say to ditch the Zeppelin Song Remains the Same in favor of the MAGFICICENT 3-disc How the West Was Won.
But that's just me :)
Nice list. I'm NOT a fan of live music as a general rule...

George - no problem. I might still see if I can grab a few tickets.
Jaguardog - I haven't really heard of those, but I'll be sure to check them out now.
Matt - Oh, I forgot that they released those. I haven't heard them although some of the 'real' boots that I have heard have been excellent. And as for the Kiss, I hadn't really heard that - guess I have to go back to reading the liner notes (I've had the album so long, I probably haven't read them in over a decade).

I believe Chad was talking about the bootlegs Pearl Jam released into stores (and via their website) for their tours in 2000/2003, a la Phish (who did make your list).
A very nice list, although considering Kiss' own comments about Alive possibly being more studio than "live", I might've put it lower

A totally Awesome List Dude! (Reply to this comment)

Great list with most of my favorites although not near my order. I know this is YOUR LIST and not mine but I would Have Frampton and Woodstock 1 in my top 5 and have Deep Purple in my top 10.
Have you heard "Iron Butterfly Live" of "Grand Funk Live Album" both are totally awesome man. At least merit a spot on your overflow list I would think? Another one you might want to check out is "Edgar Winter Live In Japan". 3 Awesome live songs on it "Free Ride", "Rock & Roll, Hoochie Koo" and one of my favorites "Frankenstein".

Listener Supported was good, but I thought that it was mostly the same as previous live releases. And I avoided bootlegs because there are just too many of them and they are too hard to get for most people.

One change... (Reply to this comment)
by chad8246
I like this list, but I would have made one change. I personally would have chosen Listener Supported from DMB over the Red Rocks show.
Of course, I would have added Ben Folds Live and The Black Crowes/Jimmy Page Live At The Greek. Oh yea, and about 10 of the Pearl Jam Bootlegs.
Still, you've put together a good group.

Well, if Neil Diamond had ever put together a capable live album, you might see him, too. Besides, with Def Leppard and Bryan Adams on tour together, who knows...

Cash, Kiss, and Neil Young all together on the same list?
Now that's something I never thought I'd ever see.
