Mighty Convenient Mouse

Written: Jan 29 '08 (Updated Nov 18 '09)
Pros:wireless, bluetooth, stylish, nice scroll wheel
Cons:right-click unique to this mouse and requires user familiarization
The Bottom Line: I still prefer actual right and left click buttons. Solid performing mouse with bluetooth range. Recommended with caveats.

This is the third part of the Imac computer package I recently purchased. I bought this as the logical addition to the other wireless upgrade (keyboard) I made to the machine.

It is not a typical mouse since there are no right and left click buttons visible. I made sure there was a 'right-click' functionality on this mouse and there is, but with a slight caveat. There are no dedicated right and left click keys, merely touch sensitive areas where those functions would normally be. I find this acceptable, but you need to develop a special skill when you highlight text you want to apply a rightclick action to. You have to remove your fingers from the mouse and then touch the right click area. Kinda hard to describe, but absolutely necessary to know.

The minuscule scroll wheel works as well as most larger scroll wheels, allowing both vertical and horizontal scrolling. There are two side squeeze button that I find useless at this point as it is awkward to engage for me, and I've no useful function I wish for it to engage.

Updated to note the issue that many of us have had with the mouse failing to scroll up (or down) at some point in it's life.  The solution is to hold it with the scroll wheel down while rubbing it vigorously over a cotton towel dampened with alcohol.

This mouse is not as easy to use as the standard models I have (and most of us) become accustomed to. It lacks the fastscroll ability of my Logitech VX Nano, but I haven't seen any other mouse that will do what the VX does in regards to fast scrolling.

The Mighty Mouse is bluetooth, which means that the range is going to be a lot better than either my Logitech or Microsoft wireless mice. I hope to test that extended functionality when surfing the internet on my front projector, a situation that might put me 'bluetooth' distance from the receiver in the Imac.
