Sorry to be so long in getting back to this comment section, myself!
Glad you decided to come over and take a peek.
I couldn't figure out what sort of sad stuff, as this piece was meant to be funny, but I went through it again and found some in the story, itself:
Allen's illness
troops going to Vietnam
and that several people I've talked about in the story have passed on
If not to this, you must have been referring to some of the links where, among other things, items such as puppy love dealing with distance and homeless are mentioned.
Anyway, glad to see you here!

No way am I staying anywhere that has no curtains, blinds or something even if I'm on the 50th floor.

Other than being ticked off at him for continuing to send troops over to Vietnam, I really didn't have that much against poor, ol' LBJ--even though I heard that he did some strange things over the years, such as showing up naked at a swimming party and strutting around like a rooster.
There was actually a lot to admire about the guy.
As for the rest of the family, I didn't have any bones to pick with them.
My cousin, Phil, had this slogan.
During the campaign year, "All the way with LBJ!" was the catch-phrase similar to that "Help is on the way!" stuff.
So, Phil would say, "All the way with LBJ--all the way to HELL, that is!"
Of course, I was, at not quite 12, far too young to vote, but I did have a Goldwater bumper-sticker running along the wheel frame of my bike.
I didn't see how we could go wrong with a President who looked like Uncle Dick! But "Uncle Dick" didn't win, and we got LBJ instead--which was fine by me until he started all of that stepping up the troops in Vietnam.

I was over to see you and gave your Four Seasons piece a VH. Then, I went and wrote a long comment, and the blasted site was down for repairs and "ate" it!!! That sucks!!!
