Top Cover Songs You MUST Download Today!

Dec 02 '04 (Updated Dec 05 '04)

The Bottom Line Looking for a refreshing change on something you love? Try these. Some you know, some you don't! Updated; easier to read

In alphabetical order, I am sure it is incomplete. I hope you enjoy and find something you like!

Across the Universe by Fiona Apple originally by The Beatles Beautiful one way or the other. Ms. Apples voice really works for this one though. On the "Pleasantville" Soundtrack.

Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit originally by the Who On the "Gothika" soundtrack. I don't know why! I have always been partial to Fred, even though he is a looney.

Black Bird by Sarah McLachlin originally by The Beatles Beautiful song, on the "I am Sam" soundtrack.
Actually the entire soundtrack is covers of Beatles songs. Check it out, it's worth it!

Cherry Bomb by L7 originally by The Runaways (written by 15 yr old Joan Jett). Saw Joan in concert about 2 years ago. She still kicks a$$! This song is a classic. "Hello world! I'm your wild girl! Ch ch ch ch cherry bomb!" "Dazed and Confused" soundtrack.

Come Together by Aerosmith originally by The Beatles I didn't even know there was an original until I started working on this article. Very likely the coolest song Aerosmith ever recorded.

Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett originally by Tommy James and The Shondells Once again, I had to download the original and compare. Joan wins.

Gin and Juice by The Gourds(not Phish)originally by Snoop Dogg Yep, you read that right.

This one wins my **Download it NOW award!** The absolute best cover ever and the funniest!

UPDATE:Apparently there is some wide spread misconception that the version on the net is by PHISH. It is not, it is a group called The Gourds, spread the word or some one might hunt you down and beat you. =)

Thanks to Dr Faustas for clueing me in.

Girl, You'll be A Woman Soon by Urge Overkill originally by Neil Diamond Better than the original. "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack.

Hard to Handle by The Black Crowes originally by Otis Redding I love anything by TBC, but this is my favorite. Chris Robinson is the only skinny guy I love!

Hazy Shade of Winter by The Bangles originally by Simon and Garfunkel I know, The Bangles?! It's a great song. I discovered it on the "Less Than Zero" soundtrack. Awesome song.

Higher Ground by Red Hot Chilli Peppers originally by Stevie Wonder Chilli Peppers trademark song. Who cares about "Under the Bridge" anyway? This song is upbeat, great bass line and it still works.

If You Don't Know Me By Now by Simply Red originally by Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes

I Love Rock N Roll by Joan Jett by Joan Jett originally by The Arrows Did you know there was an original? I didn't! It took me forever to find it. Joan wins again.

I Shot the Sheriff by Eric Clapton originally by Bob Marley (both are awesome)

I Wanna Know What Love Is by Wynonna Judd originally by White Snakeb I love this cover, she really makes me believe her when she sings it.

Jolene by The White Stripes originally by Dolly Parton I love the White Stripes. I dont care what anyone says, the rock. Jack is a genius, trust me.

Landslide by Smashing Pumpkins originally by Fleetwood Mac Honorable mention to The Dixie Chicks, they did a great job too!

Live and Let Die by Guns N Roses originally by Wings (??!!) I admit it, Wings did a good job but Axl tears it up, excellent!

Love Hurts by Nazareth originally by The Everly Brothers

Love Me Tender by Elvis originally by Frances Farmer Anyone tries to top the King, they are playing with fire!

Man Who Sold the World by Nirvana originally by David Bowie Sorry Bowie. Kurt owns this song.

Melt With You by Jason Mraz originally by Modern English Not better, just different. But good.

Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds originally by Bob Dylan

My Michelle by AFI originially by Guns' N Roses
This is probably the best cover song I have ever heard and I think it is incredible. Far better than the original. I also may be partial since I am Michelle.

Rocket Man by Jason Mraz originally by Elton John

Signs by Tesla originally by Five Man Electrical Band This song made me love Tesla. "The sign says you got to have a membership card to get inside, UGH!" Love it!

Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm originally by Michael Jackson

Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole originally by Judy Garland and Louie Armstrong More of a remake than a cover. Still one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

Summer Breeze by Jason Mraz originally by Seals and Croft Excellent cover! Better than the original!

Suzie Q by CCR originally by Dale Hawkins This is one rocking song.

Tainted Love by Soft Cell originally by Gloria Jones I don't care what you say, I love it!

Travelin' Soldier by The Dixie Chicks originally by Bruce Robison Much overlooked, excellent song.

Twist and Shout by the Beatles originally by The Isley Brothers Bealtes win, hands down. "The Ferris Buellers Day Off" soundtrack.

Wish You Were Here by Limp Bizkit originally by Pink Floyd 9/11 tribute. Really good acoustic version.

A Little Help from My Friends by Joe Cocker originally by The Beatles The Wonder Years title song. This song always makes me feel great. Thank you Kevin Arnold!

You Were Always on My Mind by Elvis originally by Willie Nelson After listening to both I think I like Willie better but Elvis is still Elvis.
