Exactly, Sue!
He sucks you in, despite knowing that the story, or the character, or whatever is crap. But you just can't stop reading.
And sometimes he surprises you, and nothing's crap. Those are the best moments. :)

Iles is certainly a bonafide "Bloody Knife" author. He knows just how to suck you in despite some of the deficiencies in his stories. And always remember - there need be no knife for those adept at the Bloody Knife.
It's all in the attitude. Sometimes a bloody knife is just a bloody knife. But sometimes a vial of poison of a sawed off shotgun is a Bloody Knife.
Damn, I love that genre.
