Re: Palisades Park Location Correction (Reply to this comment)
by ajerseyboy
Palisades Park was not located in Irvington, NJ. Olympic Park was located in Irvington, NJ where Connie Frances first performed.
There was an amusement park called Palisades Park which was located overlooking the Hudson River in the towns of Fort Lee & Cliffside Park, NJ.
Both parks were fun and very good places to meet girls when you were a young teenager growing-up in the late 50's and early 60's and coming of age.

"Mele Kalikimaka" was also done by "Jimmy Buffett"
here are some of the lyrics:
Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Xmas will be green and bright
Sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way
To say Merry Christmas to you

Ding ding ding! You got it right! I was looking for Bing (of course Don did it, but I think more Americans knew Bing's version)
I'm going to try to get my 9 year old to play it next year for his Xmas piano recital. I think it would be a blast. Something more exciting than the typical Joy to the World. His teacher has the sheet music.
Take care,
Peggy

Very cool Christmas song performed by many artists but I believe the biggest seller was by "Bing Crosby" he did it solo and he also did a version with "The Andrew Sisters". I still have the second version with the Andrew's on a 45.
"Don Ho" had a very good version and so did "The Beach Boys". "Chris Isaak", "Buzzy Jones" and a few others have done it as well.

OK--trivia for you, Mr. Music. Listen to the tune on my profile page (hopefully you can) and tell me name of song and who made this tune famous.
If you can't hear the music, let me know.

Right as rain!!!
Thanks for publically remembering!!!
As for you...I think it's Peter Tork you share a birthday with. All I know is that your time is coming the day before Valentine's Day.
A sad day for us this year, because we laid Daddy's earthly remains to rest then.
He passed on February 2 (an uncle--Eli Jasper Jobe--was born way too soon on that day back in 1912). His showing was on Ronald Reagan's birthday (Feb. 6), his service the next day on Feb. 7--not only the day before what would have been my folks' 57th wedding anniversary but, also, the birthday of several good friends--including my first love of 1977--and that strange psychiatrist I wrote about recently.
We had to wait until your birthday to have the graveside service and burial, because the weather made it totally-impossible until then, and the weather wasn't great then, either. My mom and I almost went off the road one time on our way home!
Anyway, thanks for the BD wishes and recognition!
You did Connie proud--but, of course, I knew you would! Reading the other various names, songs, etc. you dropped in there brought back even more memories!
Hugs!
AJ :o)

I hope you have a GREAT day next Sunday the 12th on your Birthday? Glad you liked my Birthday listing and I hope to add that feature more often on solo artists at leasts, if enough members also like it? I think another Member also has the 12th has her Birthday as well "AJ"?

JAG, you are with out a doubt a walking musical encyclopedia.
Personally, the next artist I'd like to see covered by your good self would be Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and I know you'll provide all the info on the band behind the grand song Two Tribes!!!
Thanks again for another informative piece!!!

I'm glad you like it and learned something.
We have 1 Drive in here in Jacksonville and in the 20 years we have lived here we have gone to it 2 times. It's set up like an old fashioned one with on window speakers and a small refreshment hut in the rear. They show double features on 2 different screens. My only complaint is if you don't get their really, really, really early you may have a hard time seeing the screen really well. A lot of owners of Trucks, RV's, Hummers etc. come early, park in the first 3 rows and its sometimes hard to see over or around them.

Too bad the drive-in movies went by the wayside, they were loads of fun. Those are nice memories your dad made for you. But I agree, weird combination of movies.
As always, I enjoyed reading your review. Lots of info I didn't know about Connie F.
