| susieq112's Full Review: Best Western Desert Inn West Yellowstone |
During our last trip we didnt take anytime to do research on hotel accomodations previous to our departure, mainly because we didnt know where we would be or when we would be ready to stop.
When we arrived in West Yellowstone, Montana early in the day we were seeking refuge for a few nights, while we explored Yellowstone National Park during the day. Since Yellowstone National Park is such a large park we knew we needed plenty of time to explore so we intended to stay about 3 nights.
We checked the price and availability for a room at the Best Western Desert Inn. During the Spring 07 season we were offered a room for 98 dollars plus tax a night. At the same time they also offered us one of their oversized rooms for our stay at the same rate.
We quickly accepted the offer since they said they were filling up and would be at or near their full capacity quickly.
Because we were there so early we couldnt get into out rooms until 3:00 PM at Check-In time.
The Room
Our oversized room was very spacious. On the right side of the room was a small open closet with hangers, shelves, ironing board and iron. A vanity with sink and mirror lined the wall next and was stocked with an ice bucket, soaps and lotion. The bathroom was a small room on the opposite side of the room which contained the toilet and a tub with shower head.
The main part of the room contained a refrigerator with a microwave placed on top of it, a TV stand with 3 drawers, a full length mirror, a desk with a telephone and high-back chair, 2 comfortable sitting chairs and two queen beds with a nightstand between them.
Our room was very clean from top to bottom and we were well pleased with it. The oversized portion of the room basically consisted of extra width across the room so there was a large gap between the end of the beds and the furnishings on the opposing wall. Other than the extra floor space the room was comparable to a normal room at the hotel.

Toddler Friendly?
Since my one year old son was traveling with us I had to pay close attention to his safety in the hotel room. This room did have a few empty outlets and few cords that were dangling. With a few pieces of furniture being moved the problem was quickly resolved. The lay-out of the room was probably one of the more toddler-friendly rooms we seen during the trip.
Continental Breakfast
We depended on the hotels Breakfast bar for our kick-start in the morning. This hotel offered yogurt, fruit cups, fresh apples, bread, waffles, oatmeal packets, English muffins and muffins.
The breakfast bar wasnt opened until 7am each morning which prompted a large breakfast-rush which was annoying. They were also inconsistent about filling the food back up and the bar itself was placed in a corner which made it very cramped. The items offered were ample to fill you up, but we were pretty bored by the third morning.
Final Thoughts
The Best Western Desert Inn provided a comfortable place to settle in, in the evening. The extra room in our oversized room was perfect for my son who was spending most of his days cramped into the car. The three day visit in the larger room gave him a lot of room to roam and run which made him much happier.
The room was clean, the bathtub, the beds, the floor
Everything was in really good condition. Sadly you cant say that for many hotels anymore but this one really has their rooms kept up nicely.
I can easily recommend this hotel to anyone passing through the West Yellowstone area and I would more than likely stay there again myself.
