I was trying to buy a 50" Sony HDTV. Preferred photo was offering it for about $400 cheaper than anybody else I could find. Since the model I wanted has been discontinued, I ordered it as soon as I saw it--without researching the seller. Big mistake. First of all, they tried to charge $200 for standard shipping which is ridiculously high. Next, they send me an e-mail saying they need some additional info before processing the order. When I finally get a hold of someone after multiple calls, the guy tries to do the used-car salesman thing and badger me into buying an extended warranty for $300 a year (Sony offers it for $150) as well as a $500 stand. Once I convince him that I'm not buying anything but the tv, he mentions that the tv does not ship with a lamp!! The salesman kindly offers to sell me a $200 dollar lamp, and they'll install it in the tv for free before they ship it. How nice. I call his bluff, but he is adamant that no rear-projection tvs come with a lamp included. This is absolutely a scam. All tv's have factory-installed lamps. The owner's manual for this model and a Sony sales rep confirmed this.
Even with the $200 shipping and a $200 "not-included factory-installed lamp" the price would still be comparable to other vendors. However, there is no way that I will ever do business with these people.
