I used to love soap Operas. When 1:00 came I could be found at only one place in front of the television set. My obsession started when I watched them as a child with my mother. I remember when Hope Brady (Williams then) first made her appearance on Days of Our Lives. I thought she was the prettiest girl and when she fell in love with Bo Brady so did I.

I grew up with Bo and Hope. I cried when they married. The song "Tonight I Celebrate My Love for You" instantly became my very favorite. This was the song they played with the couple first made love and I was there right with them. I was there when Shane D. was born.

I was there through all of the suffering Stefano Demara brought down on the city of Salem and the Brady family. I followed Roman and Marlana through their trials and celebrations. I was even there when Marlana what possessed by Satan.

I used to use soap operas as a form of entertainment, but after everyone has had everyone elses baby and has slept with everything coming and going. Sammy Brady used to be my very favorite of all the characters on the Days of Our Lives. She was so bad and came up with some of the most outlandish schemes to get her way and her sister's boyfriend, Austin. Sammy really made the entire show, but I think her was that broke me from watching. I couldn't wait to see what Sammy was up to each day. When I noticed my boys watching these woman trying to seduce other people husbands and boyfriends. Trying to explain who's baby belonged to who, when the boys could ask. I saw what it looked like through their eyes.

Over the years I have watched several different soaps with the 1:00 time slot strictly for Days. I also watched Another World, All my Children, Santa Barbara, and Passions.
I followed the charactors like they were my own family. I couldn't wait for Monday to come to see what the dramatic conclusion would be. Nothing ever happenes unless it is Friday so viewers will be anxious to tune in on Monday.

When I realized that my children were taking all of these shows to heart I tuned out. We started watching cartoons, educational cartoons and doing things together instead of watching the to see who the devil was after that week.

My Final Thoughts

Soaps are great I used to love them but I have got out of practice and don't know what is going on and who is after who's wife. Now that Dillon is in school I still don't watch remember summer vacation is always just around the corners. I think letting children of early ages watch adult programming is bad for their moral development. Anything I watch they watch so I tune out.
