I'm sorry (Reply to this comment)
by patricknjacob
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. My year has been so up and down. i had the best summer ever with my boys -- but since then it has been so hard. I think it would be therapeutic for me to put it all down in words ... At any rate, surely next year will be better.

You know, in heart, I have felt your pain and prayed for you endlessly. Youve always been one of my fav people on this site. And the dearest when helping me no matter what horrible agony im putting myself through.
This was a wonderful idea for a write off & a little more realistic to me, since it seems every month theres a new issue.

thanks - the cat was truly the final straw for me
my OCD son did not want a cat - after watching too many cartoons he truly feared a cat would climb up the wall and drop off the ceiling onto his head. it took him about a week to warm up to the cat and get attached to it. then it died two days later - it was truly so pathetic the only thing I could do was laugh (and look for the hidden cameras, because that just couldn't be real)
he wouldn't let us show the new kittens or name them for 9 days - just in case - two months later I'm glad to report they are doing fine

Thanks so much for the info Bonnie (I may be in touch if I have any questions)
we are looking into AS as well as sensory integration dysfunction. problem is Trevor - he is so smart and stubborn that testing and observing him is near impossible - he is so dug in that everyone else has a problem it's getting harder and harder to deal with him (but not to love him)
at least I know I can always count on him for comic relief

Interesting (Reply to this comment)
by bonniesayers
I belong to a ocd parenting group and get a lot of tips from other families. My 9 year old is most likely OCD.
From reading the brief description of Trevor it almost sounds like he has some Asperger symptoms. Have you ever read up on AS to see if that might be something you are dealing with?
AS usually gets diagnosed in the teen years or early 20s.

I love your attitude. When things are going bad for me, I can only hope to be able to look at it like you do, and make light of it in such a fantastic way.
I do feel the need to say that I'm sorry you had such a rotten year, and I sincerely hope that things start looking up for you and yours in 2005 -- but seeing how you can turn all of your trials and tribulations into a piece like this just speaks volumes to me. You are one tough lady, and I'm glad to "know" you via Epinions!
You take care, and don't back down. You go girl!

What a year! It's amazing that when you think you have it bad you read something like this and say Geez I am having a wonderful year compared to you.
You are one tough cookie who stays strong and looks for that light and knows that its always going to be there no matter what. You really are one incrediable person and I wish you the best for 2005.
Happy Holidays!

I read this after speaking with MIL this evening and confessing to 'not having the obligatory Christmas... um... spirit'. If I can climb out of all the obligatory writing for the center, perhaps I can write my 'this year, well, sucked!' Christmas thing.
Take care!

Do I need to put in on colorful paper with xmas-y stamps on it or will plain white paper be OK.
Tom - after all these don't you know me? colorful paper, xmas-y stamps - who do think I am - Martha Stewart? It's points off for anything color coordinated or holiday themed - you're just making me look worse
even plain white paper is pushing the envelope - unless of course it is crumpled, ripped or stained with coffee, barf or any sticky food

Only for you ( and a few others! ) might I change my standard salutation!
And who did call for 'more commenting, please!' just a few days ago in this very same Writer's Corner...?!?
Great job on this one. The last time my dear wife asked me to help with 'the Christmas letter' I did something very similar. I am sure most recipients of it were dabbing at their eyes as they read, thanking God that their life was going much better than ours.
Unfortunately, she ruined it by writing the usual 'Xmas pablum' letter on the other side...
If I can find it I will definitely post it. Or perhaps try to re-create it. Though somehow I feel that moment of holiday creativity/insanity may have 'come and gone'.
Great to see your user-name again!
