Pros: Great dictionary of common terms/jargon used in the Senate and House of Representatives
Cons: Out of date in some cases such as the website headings and possibly committees
The Bottom Line: Great resource book for understanding what you see going on watching Congressional sessions and also just for a better understanding of how Congress works.

This book is a good guide to read to get a better understanding of how the House of Representatives and Senate work. This book is meant mostly as a companion guide to help understand what you see going on when watching the Congress in action, such as on CSPAN. The book can be read cover to cover, but it is most useful as a reference guide. For example, the bulk of the text is Chapter 2, which is a kind of dictionary on different terms commonly used in Congressional business that you may be unfamiliar with. Other sections of the book explain the different things in the chambers and who the people are that are commonly seen seated in the front of the chambers, a basic outline of a legislative day, the process of a bill becoming a law, and how you can get your voice heard by Congress. One of the more interesting chapters is the last one that lists some useful websites and explains a little about what you can find on each one. It is a little out of date on explaining what links you should click because the sites have since been updated and the information is no longer under the headings the book says, however the sites I looked at still did have the information the book lists just under different headings. The book also has an appendix that is useful. The appendix tells about the different Committees and sub-committees and what topics they cover. I have feeling, though, that these are out of date since this book is over a decade old. While there is some things out of date, overall I think this is still a useful resource to learn about how the House and Senate works because most of the procedures and terms are still relevant to today.
