Hard sell, bait & switch, TERRIBLE CSR reps!

I purchased a Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera from PP in February of '08. I purchased the camera online and received the confirmation Email to call to confirm my offer. I was on hold for 15 minutes (not an exaggeration) prior to speaking to the customer service rep. I also experienced the hard sell techniques others described. I was then asked if I wanted to purchase an "import or US version" of the camera. Naturally, I said US. He gave me my updated total of nearly $300 more than expected. He went on to explain that the camera listed online was the international version (all menus, docs, software would be in Japanese, etc). I explained that the web site did not indicate it was an international version. He said I would have to take that up with the web department. I told him to cancel the order. At first he acted like he didn't hear me (I repeated myself 3 times) and began to lose my temper. After much discussion about canceling the order he offered to drop the price $50 on the US version and expedite shipping (still $250 more than expected). I again asked to cancel the order and he hung up on me (no, I was not disconnected).
I called back and spoke to someone else who was somewhat better able to explain my options. While the 2nd customer service rep had the same 'chip' on his shoulder, he was a bit easier to deal with. I did end up purchasing the US retail version for the same price minus one telephoto lens (so, less for my money than expected). I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend purchasing from this company again.
