Desert Island Dreaming !!Dec 31 '04 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I also have the utmost respect for. Djs Rolando, Carl Craig, Derrick May, and Jeff Mills. Labels Rephlex, Plus 8, AI and modern electroclashers like Tiefschwarz, !!! and Vitalic. 10. X-mix 3 (John Acquviva mix). I chose this album and the john acquiviva mix in particular as it was a permanant fixture in the Cassette player of my car back in my raver days. More emotional and deep techno from the plus 8 don than I had heard this mix blew Hawtins mix out of the water which speaks for itself. 9. Orbital (Brown Album) What can I say. Any album containing such seminal tracks as Halcyon, Chime and Impact deserves a place in this top 10. Awesome stuff from the hartnoll brothers. 8. Aim (Cold Water music) Soulful hip hop and my first introduction to the Grand central label. This album has not dated and never will. Check it out and bask in its bliss !! 7.Leftfield (Leftism) Ok, I know I am selecting the obvious choices here and my next 6 choices could easily be Exit planet dust, Music for the jilted generation, Selected ambient works, Kruder and Dorfmeister( K D Sesions), Groove Armada (Vertigo) and DJ Shadow Endtroducing. However I think a few modern masterpieces deserve a mention here. So.... 6. Hermann and kleine (Our Noise) Blissed out and complex electronica on Morr Music. The depth in these tracks is phenomonal. Think kruder and dorfmeister crossed with a bit of Aphex weirdness and bleepiness. 5. Yellotone (Tar File Junction) Brand new on AI records (www.boomkat.com if you want a listen). The new AI label passes its tenth release with some of the finest machine soul ever pressed. Also check out the Section EP by Claro Intelecto. 4. Fourtet. (Pause and rounds) More thoroughly modern electronica here and great listening albums. Might not get your feet much beyond a shuffle but the programming is mind boggling. 3. Ulrich Schnauss ( far away trains passing by ) Another amazing and modern listening album. Has caused djs such as Sasha and Tom Middleton to stand up and take notice. Both have featured tracks on their latest mix comps. Well worth hunting down. 2. Agoria (Blossom) Funky techno and definately one for the dancefloor this album is a cross between detroit techno and funky house. The standout track is Le onzeime marz. Excuse my spelling but I think it is french for the 12th of march. Anyway, if you like house or techno then go out and buy this album. Its a future classic. 1. Since I have hit the number one spot I really have to think. I cannot pick an album but I will mention Heiko Laux and Johannes Heil and german labels Kanzleramt and Kompakt. The reason being their constant inclusion in my dj sets. Fantastic Dubby techno from Berlin and Koln. Other albums worth a mention are. Quantic - The fifth Exotic. Mylo- Destroy Rock and Roll. Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman. Aim - Fabriclive compilation. Daddy G - DJ Kicks comp. |
