After 15 years as a loyal customer I'm through with Gateway

The Bottom Line Do not by anything from Gateway, because they can not service the products in a timely fashion, and seem to care little for their customers. I'll try Dell.

I must have bought 25 computers and nearly as many printers and peripherals over the years. Products have generally been good, service fair to great to horrible. Lately horrible. My laptop battery died in May, and it took them 8 months to send me a new one. I was told again and again it was not available. What good is a laptop without a battery? Finally they sent me two different batteries, charging me twice. My repeated calls to Gateway have not fixed the problem, and I'm now trying to dispute the charge on my credit card.

This experience is the final straw, for Gateway has been in decline for about three years, from my experience. Apparently they aren't making enough money to provide reasonable service. I'd guess they didn't pay their supplier of batteries and couldn't get any. Further, Gateway has proprietary designs, so if they can't supply it nobody can.
