If you set your expectations for Airborne Express pretty low, you'll be satisfied with their services. Otherwise, stay clear of Airborne Express if you need any hand-holding at all. Other people might have had better experiences with Airborne, but I didn't. Why I'm Negative: I was interested in taking a trip to Colorado during spring break. I'm really into mountain biking, so naturally I planned to take my bike. I couldn't drive because I only had a week long time slot. My only other option was to fly. The airline I had a reservation for (Delta) was charging a huge fee to ship my bike, so I started to look for other options. My first attempt was to email their support staff. On the official http://www.dhl-usa.com website, it said to "expect a response in 24 hours." (That message has since changed). The form I used: http://www.dhl-usa.com/CustServ/ContactUs.asp. I got a response after 48 hours from a customer service rep saying that she herself had no idea how to ship a bike, yet my request would be forwarded to a specialist who would help me. I was never contacted by this "specialist". Next I tried to call the DHL/Airborne Express (they merged) toll free hotline. The number I called was: 1-800-CALL-DHL (1-800-225-5345). I asked the rep that answered about shipping a bike via DHL/Airborne and whether or not the seals on my suspension would be affected. They told me to go to my local bike shop and ask them. My local bike shop claimed that an unpressurized cabin would blow the seals on my bike. Why couldn't Airborne/DHL tell me this in the first place? Thanks to their screw up, I ended up renting a bike in Colorado. Not a huge loss, but it's still frustrating. Use them at your own risk.  |
