theman61890's Full Review: Pokemon For Ho Oh The Bell Toll & A Hot Water Batt...
I did not buy this but borrowed it from a friend while a arduous twelve hour drive to Canada. I found the concept of the Gameboy Advance to play videos and such was great. But the idea of paying twenty dollars for two episodes were absurd so I never got around to buying one of these GBA video videogames. But overall the concept was not bad a the "game" was not bad and made the trip easier to manage.
Story
Its the normal Pokemon story as Ash and his friends are traveling the world in search of Pokemon. These two episodes centralize the pokemon HO-OH and Snorlax. In Pokemon For Ho Oh The Bell Toll the gang hears bells that were supposed to signal the return of Ho Oh a legendary bird pokemon. The ringing bells also cause nearby bug pokemon to lash out at the city and at their trainers. Ash and his friends try to save everyone.
A Hot Water Battle is an episode in which the gang finds a rainforest and decides to rest. they reach a city and decide to relax in the hot springs. As Ash relaxes Team Rocket steals his Pokemon and heads for a cave that inhabits a Snorlax. Snorlax chases them and its Ash to the rescue once again.
Graphics
The graphics were better than I thought, comparing the GBA to the TV graphics and they would be a perfect match. There is no lagging, scratchiness or anything wrong with the graphics for the most part. The only problem I came across was tat some colors were oddly bright which made some things look odd, like Chikorita was darker than in the cartoon, only subtle stuff like that was bad graphically.
Sound
The sound sounded great and was truly crisp. The show sounded like it would on the television through the GBA. All the characters sounded like they should. The only problem was static, when you put the volume all the way up or close to it an annoying static would appear. This is no real problem since the game can be heard perfectly at half volume or so. Other than that everything else was alright.
Gameplay
There is nothing to really write here. You select the episode you want to watch by pressing A. During the episode you can fast forward, rewind, stop, just like a video tape or DVD.
Replay Value
This is only as good proportionally to how much you love Pokemon. I watched it twice, but the amount of times you watch it depend on how much you like Pokemon because I know my little cousin has watched it over twenty times.
I would suggest buying it if you find it for under five dollars since anything more than that is too much in my opinion. Overall it was a phenomenal try on Nintendos part but DVD's are still a better investment.
