The Bottom Line If you're selling, you're fine.... if you're buying from uBid themselves, you could be in for a heap of trouble.

MISSION: Purchase a monitor from the uBid Warehouse
STATUS: SUCCE.... FAILED.... ...?!?!?
On the Seventh of September, I lost two auctions for "Major Name-Brand" monitors in the $69-79 range. I missed by $4 both times. The monitors truly are major name brands: they are Dell monitors manufactured by Sony. With a 15.9" viewable and .28mm dot pitch, I was rather pleased. This is not the issue, though.... the issue is that, as of the time I publish this Epinion (3 October, 2001 - 1558 EST), we still haven't gotten what we paid for. In addition, there was only one option for shipping: Next-Day Air by FedEx.
I didn't mind paying that amount (actually, it was my fiance who paid, because it's her monitor). It was $59 for the monitor, plus $76.xx for shipping --- next day, remember. However, this has been almost a month, and customer service for the company is terrible. Let me outline the experience:
1.) The only form of contact given on the site itself is the "Contact Us" form-to-email CGI script.... no phone number.
2.) I hate to use this phrase.... I really do.... but their Customer "Service" Operators are complete idiots. All they do is use a standard cut-and-paste response to every email. They do not use their own minds, and they don't even address the issue you present to them. In addition, you can expect to wait 5-7 days for a response.
3.) They do not allow you to speak to management - even by a direct request. They are very evasive when you ask to, and I had to use "social-engineering" (so-to-speak) to make my way up the chain of command.
4.) "Credit Card Processing" is said to take "up to 1 to 5 business days, but is usually done within minutes of auction close." Bull$#@%! We're in "credit card processing" TWENTY-SIX days later. Yeah, twenty-six. I could give each day a letter of the alphabet now.... and uBid's letters would be Day 6 and Day 21.
I don't mean to say that I will never use the service again (even though buyer-feedback comments are "uneraseable," according to their staff, leaving you open to slander). I just wanted to warn potential "Direct-from-uBid" buyers of the problems you may encounter. With any luck, this will be resolved quickly. I've contacted them several times, to no real avail. Now I'm using my rights to free speech to say one thing:
"I think uBid's sales operation sucks. If they want to offer direct-sales - an excellent open - they should get on-the-ball. This is one customer who will never again buy from them, no matter how good the prices are."
Especially when you can't get a refund on shipping, even, and they say, 'I'm not going to give you anything extra. $#&* happens sometimes.'
Whatever, uBid. uSuck.
