Very Very Good List.....I actually feel this one more. The only albums that I've not heard here are Wordsworth and Foreign Exchange. Only heard a few singles though and I love "All that You Are"...I'm just glad Ace, Jean Grae, The Roots and Masta Killa are in there.....You Have a very Good Ear!...Peace

Thanks. Honestly, I don't think Pooh's solo will do that well because he doesn't have Phonte's delivery and charisma, but I hope he proves me wrong.

while i agree with some parts i widely dont see(or hear) it the way u do. While Connected is def top 5 i feel Mirror Music and Street's Disciple is better. Just my opinion and i guess taste, but hey "everythings gonna be alrigggggght" lol

Nice list (Reply to this comment)
by mcheadcase
I liked your list, its nice to know someone besides me thinks "Connected" was the best album of the year. Something tells me 05 will be LB's year. Big Pooh's solo "Sleepers" is pretty tight (I Heard a promo version) and if this album is any preview to what their sophomore "The Minstrel Show" will be, they will drop a classic for years to come. Once again nice list.

Peace

Re: Re: Re: Good list BUT . . . (Reply to this comment)

Actually, when you look up the definition of "album" what you'll most commonly get is "the is a collection of one or more songs on vinyl, cassette, or CD" or some variation thereof. Unfortunately this definition would include singles, maxi singles, and of course EP's in addition to actual full-length recordings. So technically, almost anything you see in the music store could be considered and album, and I'm not about to even try to assess and rank all those.

Since most people tend to associate the word album with a collection of music in the full-length, long play (LP) format, I stick with that definiton when choosing my top 10 album pieces.

Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I didn't feel reight about getting that Edo G in there. It was good, but I think it needed a little work. It would probably go in the top 20 though.

Just to let you know . . . EP doesn't stand for "not an album," and its long enough to be an album, but your opinion of "overrated" is enough of a reason I'd say, you have my respect.

Dood, great list... (Reply to this comment)

Youre right the Brother Ali piece was overrated... and bottom line, other than Masta Ace so low on ...I thought the list was dead on for the indie hip hop scene... by the way the Jean Grae was really that good? Gotta go check it out.. But hey Wheres Edo bro... you gotta be kidding NO EDO?!?!?!

Well in my opinion, that Brother Ali is HIGHLY overrated. Plus its an EP, so even if I wanted to, I couldn't put it on my top 10 albums list.

Yeah, I'm not really into commercial rap and after hearing the best of what Nelly, Ja, and Fab have to offer, I sincerely doubt their ability to produce album that approaches the top 10 on this list in terms of quality. Thanks for commenting though.

Good list BUT . . . (Reply to this comment)
by gpnicker85
More than the Nas missing i was surprised to see no Brother Ali, I mean not even in the top ten?!?! Y'know it makes me look bad when my album of the year in any genre doesn't even get a mention from the top hip-hop head.

I'll cop that Foriegn Exchange though, haven't heard it.

I decided to rate this one to show you my appreciation. I'm not a fan of hip hop in any form but I must say you made a very great list. I can definattely see why you are a lead reviewer. Great job, man!

I've never heard of these people before except Kayne West-He's pretty good. But I didn't see that you didn't mention Ja Rule-'R.U.L.E.',or Fabolous 'Real Talk' or any of the highly-watched rappers by the media.I did see that you mentioned G-Unit,Eminem and Nelly's two albums.Personally,'Suit' is the best.I see you like the not-so-media-hype kind of rappers.I like the more all-up-in-the-media kind of rappers like Ja,Nelly,Chingy etc.You have a good list of hiphop albums to get.Great job!

Nope, don't really know what the deal is with Dice. He was performing with the Roots on the recent Okayplayer Tour so he's still in good with them definitely. Maybe he's trying to take a different direction with his music.

not a fan of tipping point (Reply to this comment)
by underdawg
while i really liked "things fall apart" and "do you want more!?!??!?!", i only kinda liked "phrenology." some songs were good but it felt like a black thought solo piece because it was missing malik b and that "band" feel. they haven't resolved this in tipping point, but i guess i should give it a spin anyways.

hey, do you know what happened to dice raw? i thought he was almost as good as BT. nice review.

They don't come to Dallas that often though. No one does unless they use the words "crunk," "gangsta," or "thug" 30,000 times in their songs. SV and Phife came to town a few years ago and played to an empty room. J-Live and the Seven Heads show got straight up CANCELED for lack of sales. "Music" fans here SUCK, so no decent artists even bother tying to come here anymore.

If they swing by a nearby college town though, I'll try to make the trip.

you should definitely try to catch them if you can. De La tours all the time. I missed Jean Grae here a few weeks ago...i was broke as hell. And i was mad as hell to miss her too.

Thanks. I've never seen De La live, but Jean's show w/ the Roots was pretty tight. And my review of Street's Disciple is definitely coming seeing how my opinion on it is in the minority...

great list...always nice to see love for Jean Grae and De La (man I can't WAIT to see them live again!!). And you're right about Kanye.

i'm wondering if you'll do a review of Street's Disciple. It's omission is extremely interesting to me.

Thanks. I've never been a fan of Ghost and I think Street's Disciple is garbage, so that's why those two aren't there. But you're right, its all personal opinion.

interesting list. A few of those cuts I had on my list - Masta Ace was #1 for me, but I'd have found space for Ghost and Nas on there somewhere... but hey it's all subjective to personal opinion. Excellently written up as well.
