Pros: Good attention keeping plot, but also easy to put down when necessary
Cons: Does not exactly wrap up the story well
The Bottom Line: Overall good book as I read through it, but in the end it left me a little confused as it did not very clearly wrap up everything.

The Latest Bombshell is an overall good book that kept my attention and made me want to keep reading it. It was, however, also easy to put down when I had to do something else. The way the plot was written with section breaks within many of the chapters it made stopping at a convenient point easy to do, which is part of why I liked this book as it was on of the easiest to read without accidentally (or necessarily) rereading parts due to stopping at an awkward part when I had to do something else like when I was nearing my destination on the Metro.
The plot starts with the main character, Kate Boothe, being in Rome. She is on vacation from her political consultant job, which is something she does after every big case she and her business partner Jack work on. While in Rome an alleged traitor to the U.S. has been jailed. It is a seemingly hopeless case to get him, Lyle Gould (also, Kates ex-boyfriend), off the hook, but Jack and Kate end up asking to doing the media spinning to turn the public to the truth. First, however, they have to unravel who is the real traitor selling secrets to the Chinese. Thus Kate leaves her current boyfriend in Rome to return to D.C. perhaps losing any chance she had of a further relationship with him.
The is an interesting book that is in some respects a detective novel with Kate trying to track down the truth, but really she is not a detective and actually a lot of the fact finding is being done by a reporter working for Jack and Kate. The book focuses a lot on politics in D.C. and the role of political consultants, but it also shows the law side as Lyle is put on trial mostly in secret. The book is also an underdog story about Kate and Jack trying to turn the public opinion away from making Lyle guilty towards looking at the real guilty party.
Will they succeed and get Lyle off the hook? Will the real traitor be punished? Will the case lead to the presidential campaign gig they always wanted? Will Kate win back her Italian boyfriend? All these questions and more kept me wanting to read to the end, however the end disappointed me in that it did not exactly clearly wrap everything up.
