Pros:Joe Satriani on guitar is Professor Satchafunk!

Cons:You don't have it yet, Go BUY IT, class dismissed

The Bottom Line: This is one class in guitar listening that you should sign up for today!

Course Title: Musterion of Rock
Taught by: Professor Satchafunkilus (a.k.a. Joe Satriani)

Course Prerequisites: The following courses are recommended but not required before taking Musterion of Rock:

Surfing with the Alien
Super Colossal
Satriani Live

A working knowledge of totally awesome guitar music will assist the student greatly. Students who have taken the G3 classes are strongly urged to sign up.

Although no course book is required, a CD player, powerful receiver and a kickin' set of speakers needs to be provided by each student.

Course Description

Joe Satriani was a guitar teacher to many including such notables as Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and wunderkind Steve Vai. His latest album, Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock, released April 1st, 2008 is no April Fools joke, it's Satch's latest album and it ROCKS!

Class Syllabus

1.Musterion 4:38 The course intro is deep and mysterious with driving bass riffs and heavy drumming topped with Professor Satch's mysterious guitar solos and catchy riffs, bends and vibrato.

2. Overdriver 5:05 The title says it all, powerhouse chords, funky bass riff, and creative noodling up and down the fret board.

3. I Just Wanna Rock 3:25 review of crowd chant song similar to crowd chant introduced on Super Colossal. Students will be introduced to the funky sound of the vocoder.

4.Professor Satchafunkilus 4:47 Prof Satriani shows you what you would love to be able to do on guitar, but can't. (or can you?) He makes it sound so easy.

5.Revelation 5:55 The revelation here is that Joe Satriani is halfway through another 10 incredible tracks of guitar music.

6.Come On Baby 5:43 Really great bass riffs and some piano start this song. Listen close and you can hear the tambourine.

7.Out of the Sunrise 5:43 introduces more piano to Joe's guitar music

8. Diddle Y A Doo Dat 4:14 Complex soloing lessons and rhythms that will lodge themselves firmly in your mind.

9. Askik Vaysei 7:42 Eastern sounds, percussion, harmonics and more on creative guitar.

10.Andalusia 6:52 Percussive beat intro, some incredible sounding acoustic sounding Spanish/Classical style guitar playing. Joe shows the class just how good classical style guitar can sound.

No knowledge of lyrics is required, only the ability to chant for I Just Wanna Rock. The student should be prepared to rock out to the incredible shredding and solo skills of the Master Joe Satriani as he once again makes his Ibanez do wonderful things. Students who took Super Colossus last year, will not be disappointed by Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock.

Teaching Assistants

Professor Joe is on all guitars, bass and keyboards. He is joined in these classes by Jeff Campitelli on drums and percussion, Matt Bissonette on bass and ZZ Satriani on Tenor Sax and also John Cuniberti on percussion.

Teaching Props

Once again, Joe uses his trademark Ibanez guitars with D'addario strings and DiMarzio pickups, Peavy amps and effects by Korg/Vox and others.

Comments

I sat in on this course, and I was blown away. I have followed "satch" since Surfin' with the Alien" right up 'til last years Super Colossal and I have all his conferences at G3 on DVD (G3 Live, G3 in Denver, G3 in Tokyo). Satriani's guitar playing here shows once again why he's still the master. - Shopaholic_man

I heard someone say that this course has no lyrics. I say, Joe don't need no stinkin' lyrics, he talks with his guitar, and he has quite a lot to say! - anon

With Professor Satchafunilus and the Musterion of Rock Satriani once again pushes the envelope of guitar music. Although Satch's guitar sounds are very processed sounds (no classic Gibson/Marshall sound or Fender twang here), the emotion and passion are clear as a bell. Each of the songs here are pure instrumental bliss, and fear not, despite the processing, Joe Satriani's solos are very distinctive. Once I listened all the way through, I just wanted to start at the beginning. - E.C. Mark
