I think you have missed the point of this article :P If you want Mac vs PC debate read my other article in this section.

BTW to say you can do all the same things on either platform is simplistic and inaccurate.. for example if you want to run final cut pro or logic audio, you need to run an OS X machine.. Then there is the quality difference of the software design and coding. For example f you want to run a secure platform windows is not very suitable. In some cases I will concede you are correct, for example if all you wanted to do on a machine was use Adobe Photoshop or indesign it would make little difference which platform you were to use. In many cases however people use a single machine for many tasks and this is where the difference between platforms becomes more pronounced.

lots of carefully worded info... (Reply to this comment)

But for example, you say there's only one way to rename a file in Windows while there's two on the Mac, yet in reality you can do the click-wait-2-seconds in Windows, as well.

This is the unfortunate aspect to almost any article like this. Little bits conveniently overlooked in favor of whichever system the author tends to prefer.

The differences are more than skin deep, but the end result is still the same. Macs are more expensive, but look nicer and have a more polished UI with better code underneath. After being in the graphics industry for about 15 years, I can say that in the long run, there's nothing you can do on a Mac that you can't do as well on a Windows box, and vice versa. I just comes down to budget and which interface suits you better.

And if you're a gamer, no contest.

Re: update (Reply to this comment)

For as long as I can remember I have been using a PC, then only a few years ago I began using a mac at work and as a windows user I was completely lost and in total chaos. Although I would say I am relatively accustomed to macs I am still a bit insecure on them. However, I am in the midst of laptop research and it seems to me the playing field is pretty even. The one glitch holding me in pc land is mac and surfing the net with a one button mouse. I have never gotten accustomed to this and find that on the whole a pc is the way to go in this arena.

Thanks again.

I updated the content, added things I didn't have time for last time. Work will continue to develop. If you need Mac OS X advice feel free to post a question in these comments.
