I'd always walked right by them before, thrown off by their price tag. Cat food that costs three times what I normally pay just wasn't going to get my attention. But toss in a rebate offer that makes them half price, plus a coupon from my local store, and now you've got my attention.
That's how I came to try the Wellness Healthy Indulgence line of cat food packets. Each 3 oz. packet contains rectangular morsels of food, plus gravy. This review is for the most exotic-sounding of their four flavors: Chicken, Crab, and Herring Recipe.
The first 9 ingredients are: chicken broth, chicken, chicken liver, crab, herring, egg whites, oat fiber, carrots and sweet potatoes. As you can see, this product starts out full of good, natural ingredients. A bit further down on the list are squash, blueberries, cranberries and zucchini. I soon figured out that all four of their flavors contain this particular combination of fruits and vegetables.
I couldn't wait to see if Music (my cat) would like this combo as much as I imagined I would. Well, as it turned out, he didn't. He ate a few morsels, then moved on to the dry food. While he didn't sniff it and walk away, as he does when he absolutely hates a certain food, he didn't eat it with much gusto, either. Since my silly cat won't touch tuna fish, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that crab and herring didn't make the top of his list, either.
Oh well, this is just one of four flavors in the Wellness Healthy Indulgence line. Luckily, he seems to like the other three. But for whatever reason, this one just doesn't do it for him.
Still, I feel it's a healthy food, with wholesome, natural ingredients. There are no meat by-products, and no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors. As far as the guaranteed analysis goes: crude protein min 8%, crude fat min 4%, crude fiber max 1%, moisture max 82%, taurine min .1%, magnesium max .025%.
The packets are easy to open, and easy to serve. And at 3 oz., they're the perfect size for us, since we like to give Music two meals a day, plus unlimited dry food.
Normally, these packets sell for 99¢ at my local pet store. But last month there was a rebate opportunity that let you buy four packets and receive a coupon for four free packets. So, it was like they were half of that price.
Of course, if Music won't eat it, there's no sense in buying it. So I won't be purchasing this exact flavor again. However, I'll continue purchasing the other flavors in this line, as I really feel they provide a healthy meal.
