you have not been upholding the policies that Epinions sets out for you to administer to the rest of us.

Only an arrogant person would claim that his personal interpretation about the rigidity of the guidelines for a category are the "policies that Epinions sets outs," especially when the vast majority of advisors do not share his viewpoint. Honesty colored by arrogance does not add up to truth.

Furthermore, you are hypocritical in the application of your rigid view. You have already given "Very Helpful" to reviews in the "Ten Best Film" category entitled:

"Quotable 5-star Movies"
"Marilyn Monroe: 10 Movies From Playboy's #1 Sex Star of the 20th Century"

Apparently, the honesty that you claim to possess is highly selective. There are dozens of postings in that category that you have ignored or rated favorably but you've singled out a few people for harassment. In any case, your erratic views will in no way guide my selection of reviews or topics or the content thereof because your views are counterproductive to the interests of the Epinions clientele. Your comments are consistently "Not Helpful."

Sorry, metalluk, but Washington tells us still that ours is a free country. So long as we follow the rules of courtesy, free expression of criticism is allowed, too, here at Epinions. My intention in commenting on your work is to be helpful and to follow my interests.

By my estimate, I have made three or four constructively critical comments on all your reviews that I've read. My apologies if you find me condescending in expressing my criticism. It was not my intention. I try to deal in facts. My recent criticism is that you have not been upholding the policies that Epinions sets out for you to administer to the rest of us.

I see nothing condescending about the observation. It is a fact.

As for the WOT, remember that you stopped trusting me. I did not stop trusting you.

No hard feelings on my part.

Think about the several facts above before you write a review. Apply them across the board.

Just a suggestion.

Thank you for the compliment.

All the best.

Honesty is also a virtue.

Definitely. A virtue that you regularly exhibit. It is one of the virtues. Necessary, but not sufficient by itself.

I guess I still trust you more than you do me.
One of the problems of being a star for a while is that sometimes we react badly to valid criticism.

(a) I don't consider myself a star. Even less so after reading so many excellent reviews by other reviewers here at Epinions. Including yours. I am frequently humbled by the quality of some reviews I've read by others, such as one that I read today by MrsNormanMaine.

(b) Yes, I dropped you from my trust list. You presume to know why, but don't. It had nothing to do with criticism, valid or otherwise. It is an issue of style. You have repeatedly left comments on my reviews that are blatantly condescending in tone as well as picky in substance. A condescending attitude is never justified, but even less so for the subset of the comments that also lack genuine merit. Quite honestly, I would prefer that you not comment on my reviews, because it is a distraction from what is worth doing here at Epinions. Obviously you have the right to continue to do so. I'm simply articulating my preference. I'd prefer not to invest time and effort in disputing with you.

Somewhat Helpful, for Obvious Reasons. (Reply to this comment)

Why do you not use your position to gather the other Advisors and the CL's to put in Best Actress, Best Director categories, and so on?

I guess I still trust you more than you do me.

Honesty is also a virtue.

One of the problems of being a star for a while is that sometimes we react badly to valid criticism.

Too bad.

All the best.

for referencing some of my reviews in your excellent piece.

I'm sure, though, that you meant "Mildred Pierce" won Joan Crawford her Oscar, and not "Mildred Place."

I'm going to bookmark your pieces on the Oscars and read some of older reviews when I get some time. Thanks for sharing!

Sincerely, Pat

You're welcome. :)
I try to check the links in my reviews after I get them posted. It is easy to get one a little off and sometimes very hard to find the problem in the code.

I don't think that there's anyway to doublecheck links until after a review is posted.

When a review/post is in the Eps preview or edit mode (i.e. when it shows you everything it thinks is a spelling error, etc), you can actually click on your own hyperlinks and see whether they are correct.

Thanks for the tip. I made the correction. I don't think that there's anyway to doublecheck links until after a review is posted. In the next day or so I'll go through them all and make sure they work.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I am sort of hoping that some reviewers like yourself will spot the films mentioned that have no reviews and set about doing them.

Professionally, I'm close to retirement (3 years maybe) and only teach classes at this point. All my lectures are on powerpoint and easy to update and deliver.

Very well done review, like always. :)
Thanks for linking to a few of my reviews.
I did notice one little thing...for the links to reviews for Nicole Kidman movies, the links to Dead Calm and Eyes Wide Shut were switched.

Once again, a hats off achievement, and a ridiculously useful resource and hyper-linked tool. I'm beginning to wonder how you juggle a career with such frequent and in depth reviews and surveys... I'm guessing you don't need much sleep.

I feel compelled to go out and at least watch "Blue Sky" if not review it. A film with Best Actress, hardly a decade old, and such neglect! The shame.

Thanks again for the links to some of my reviews... Speaking of neglect, some of those Pickford ones were my earliest things here, and could use a little more love.
