I feel the need for speed
Written: Apr 18 '08 (Updated Apr 18 '08)
Pros:On the fly adjustable sensivity. Non slip covering. Did I mention it is fast?
Cons:Right hand only.
The Bottom Line: If you want a fast mouse that is very precise and has many adjustable options, this is the one. And come on...it's a Razer!
Razer has always been known for providing superior gaming mice and have done it, again, with the Death Adder.
There are many reviews out there that will tell you the weather when they bought the product, how they felt when they got it home and how pretty the packing is. I won't take your time up with those aspects of a review but if you're familiar with Razer then you know that their products are very attractively packaged and the Death Adder follows suit.
But lets talk about this mouse and how it works in the real world.
If you're buying this mouse then you are probably a computer gamer. This mouse is, probably, overkill and overpriced if you are needing a mouse for general desktop computing tasks.
The Death Adder will function without the software and driver installed but you won't be able to unlock it's full potential nor will you be able to harness and control this mouse if need be. What I am referring to is there are many options in the software/driver to customize the speed of this mouse and what functions the buttons (5) will do. So I recommend installing the accompanying software.
One note to be aware of is that Razer released a new driver (actually 2) and a firmware upgrade earlier this year. If you plan on upgrading the firmware for increased motherboard compatibility, then you must use one of the newer drivers as the firmware upgrade is incompatible with older drivers. Make sure you stop by www.razerzone.com for the latest news, software and drivers for the Death Adder.
My favorite feature of this mouse is that the software allows me to tell the middle mouse button (the scroll wheel) to adjust the sensitivity while in game. High sensitivity is great for many aspects of gaming but if you're in a sniping scenario, a slower mouse (lower sensitivity) is beneficial when trying to line up your shot. With "on the fly" sensitivity adjustment, you can change your mouse speed while remaining in the game.
In addition, the driver/software allows you to preset 5 separate profiles to store on the mouse. This is great because you can setup how fast the mouse is with DPI settings and how fast your scroll wheel works with Polling settings. You can save 5 different profiles that can be accessed by pressing a small button on the bottom of the mouse. This is a great feature that will allow you to switch profiles without opening up the driver software to do it.
The mouse is very precise and I feel it increased my meager gaming skills somewhat. Once you put this mouse in your hand, it becomes a part of you.
If you're not used to a high DPI mouse, then I would allow for the learning curve effect to pass before deciding if you like this mouse or not. I can remember my first "gaming" mouse and it was so much faster than anything I had used before that I felt my skills dropped. But once I got used to it I felt I was better than before.
In my opinion, this is one of the best gaming mice I have ever owned. I have no regrets in purchasing this mouse.
