Updated May 19, 2008: I have since made two more orders on the site and they came quickly. I'm not sure why my first order was so slow.
My sister's birthday was last month and, among other things, she asked me for a body briefer. She has gained some weight and is super self conscious so, I went looking for a body briefer that was affordable, comfortable, and free of boning. I happened across the Maidenform Online Store and found what I wanted at a reduced price.
I had a decent experience but shipping is incredibly slow. In fact,I don't know when my order would have gone out if I hadn't contacted the site.
What the Site Sells
Maidenform Online Store sells Maidenform intimates and sleepwear as well as shapewear.
Navigation, Shipping, and Returns
This is a fairly small site. It is very easy to navigate via category links and keyword searches. The categories bring up different styles of items and you click on the thumbnail for all the styles. The photos are so-so, just simple one dimensional ones with an option to view larger pics. You can't see side or back views.
When you see something you want, choose a color, size, and quantity and add it to your cart. You will see your cart and shipping charges each time you make a choice. When you are finished shopping, you will head to the checkout. If you are already registered with the site, your address and other info will appear when you log in. Otherwise, you will have to input the usual shipping info.
Shipping charges are free for orders over $75.00 in the US. Under that, it is either $7.00 (up to $49.99) or $8.00 (from $49.99 to $74.99). They also offer two day air and next day air shipping for an additional fee.
Use a major credit card and your order will be confirmed by email. The theory is that you will get a shipping email and the items will ship in a timely manner. That didn't happen with me and I am not sure if my order was an isolated case or not.
Returns are accepted for unworn, unwashed merchandise. You can exchange or get a refund within 30 days of purchase. You must pay for shipping back to the company but they will pay to ship your exchange if you choose one.
My Experience
I found the briefer I was looking for in the clearance section of the site. It was a very good price, indeed. I also ordered a few other things and had a free shipping code which went through with no problems. I received a confirmation email promptly after paying with a credit card.
Then I waited.
And waited.
A week after I received my confirmation email, I checked my order status on the site. It was still processing. It hadn't even shipped out yet!
I emailed the site because I noted that one of the items I bought was the wrong size. I didn't expect to be able to do anything about it a week after I ordered but I tried anyway. I received an email back agreeing to exchange the size. That was good. But when were they going to ship my order?
At the same time, they said that they were out of stock of a certain panty I bought and did I want another color. Mind you, this was a week after the order was placed and after I wrote to them. I told them to surprise me and just toss whatever they had for colors into the box. It was a very inexpensive little bikini panty and I didn't really care what color/pattern I got. But when would I have known the color choice was out of stock if I hadn't written? So many questions ...
I inquired about when my order would go out and they responded saying it would go out that day. Coincidence or did I fall into the cracks and my order may not have shipped at all had I not contacted them? I'll never know.
I did receive a tracking email and my order arrived three days later. In all, it took 13 days from order to delivery which isn't awful but why would a site hold an order for eight days and ship out the day I happened to contact them about the issue?
The order was in a box and, inside, was a Maidenform plastic shopping bag. the items were on hangers in the bag - no tissue or plastic. It was as though they put a bag of stuff I bought at the store into a box and sent it to me. However, the items were as described, the exchange was correct, and I am pleased with the quality.
Conclusion
I like the prices and items at the Maidenform Online Store but I am leery of the shipping process. I probably will order from them again because their clearance prices are very good and because their customer service was very accommodating to me, answering my email very personally right away and making an exchange at the last minute. However, if I have issues again I won't shop there any longer. I give this site 3 stars. I will recommend it only if you can't find what you want on another site for a similar price. Why take chances, right? Still, you can get some good deals on quality intimates and shapewear if you're willing to wait for shipping.
