The Bottom Line A story of revenge mixed with myth.

This is one of my stories that I had to write for English I and I got an A on it. I haven't wrote in a while and I hope for O.K. comments. Or any at all.

This is set in the 1800’s and it’s placed in the view of a man, because it would be easier. No, I’m not a freak my fear in this is being killed by an unknown object or by a myth as it is set in this.

I walked into the graveyard of my new life. Dark. So dark. I turned on to the path for the graveyard. Long and winding. Voices. Voices behind me. Oh yes. Voices. Human lives behind me I now remember.

Elizabeth. The one who stole my heart and did nothing but ignore. Benjamin, the one who stirred my anger farther than it already is. Allison, the innocent, HA! Just like the rest of them. Peter, oh Peter. Big head but nothing much else. My betrayers, my hatred, my source of where all my anger begins.

As we walk. I go back and remember that dingy night. It was about a year ago, the night I changed, never to be the same. I was always the type who never had many friends, but when I made friends, I would have done anything to keep them. Anything. When Elizabeth confessed love for me, I was shocked….and happy. But then Peter told me it was nothing more than a prank. Both of them laughed at me. They told me I wasn’t worthy enough for their friendship. I cried to Allison and Benjamin who did nothing but laugh and agree with them. Bitter I grew, and left without word. I ran to the place where the dead sleep, where no one will hurt me. I ran, tears stung my eyes, wind burned like fire through my cheeks.

To the graveyard I ran, not knowing of anything, but the hurt. I remember it so. Kneeling at the dark ground, letting my tears soak into the soft dirt. The pain of rejection too much to bear. Yes, unknowing a presence was near and when I looked up a pale woman with long dark hair stood staring. Swamp green eyes drilling knowing into me.

Then she spoke. “Why are you here?” she asked with nothing uncertain in her voice. “May I help in anyway?”

“How can you?” I asked with pleading but doubtful, moistened eyes.

“Come with me.” She stated, turning away.

I followed, for I thought, what else did I have to lose? I followed her on to a winding path as I am walking now. Into a dark house I followed her, never to be the same. She led me. She looked into my eyes and said “What is it you need?”. I looked up at her and said one word. “Revenge.”

That night I was turned, turned into what now I am of the undead. I remember that slight sting, blacking out, waking up feverish as if I’d died. I saw the pale woman looking up at my intently, along with a male version of the woman. They told me “Welcome to the Undead.”

But what I didn’t realize was that I was cursed. In my own hell. Alive but dead. Breathing but not. Am I suppose to dead? But I live for I have to kill. And here I walk with the one’s I’ve known. They smiles, as do I, vengeance will be mine.

“Oh William!” Elizabeth sang out, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Yes.” I replied.

“Are we there yet?” Benjamin asked, then added, “We can hardly see.”

“We should have brought a lantern.” Allison said, trembling with fear in her voice. But for what? Of what she doesn’t know.

“We’re almost there.” I replied.

“How do you know?” Peter asked, “For it’s so dark.”

“I’ve been here before, friend/” I called, “Don’t worry.” I said smiling to no one.

I wrapped my black cloak tighter for I could smell that the rain was preparing. Perfect. The house was in vague view, I felt it in my bones.

“We are here, there shall be light inside.” I called to my friends. Yes, my friends.

“Oh, thanks heavens!” Allison called gratefully.

“Not a moment to waste, hurry up now.” I said. Oh yes, scurry you rats.

They all scurried in the house. My hate growing with their steps. The rain began to pour. I laughed myself.

“William, where art thou?” Allison asked.

I lit a lantern to show light. “There you are.” Ben said.

I smiled. “Oh dear!”, I shouted as the wind blew out the light.

“No!” Allison wailed as the light went out.

“Ah, well, we all shall meet in the dining area, but find it in the dark like a maze.” I shouted, running away from them.

I heard Allison’s breathing and smelled her flowery scent, for she was sweating. I followed her ever so slowly. Like a snake after it’s prey.. She walked into the kitchen area. Perfect. I grabbed her shoulder. She flinched and screamed. I clamped my hand over her mouth.

“Hush”, I whispered, “Tis I.”

“William!” she cried out, “It’s you! Don’t do that!” She slapped my arm slightly. “It’s so dark can’t we just go back and find the others!?”

“No, I must speak with you first.”

“O.K. but let’s look for them while you speak, please?” She asked begging.

“No.” I grabber her arm, “ I must talk now”

“William, what is wrong?” I sensed her fear and her blood rushing in and out of her arm veins. “Is it Elizabeth? She still likes you! William, please please, tell me, what is it? Your scaring me, your not speaking, please?” I felt her fear rising, to the point where I wanted to choke her. All I heard was her laughter along with the other’s .

“I have grown up, I see what you are, A damsel, always, you think your so innocent with your girlish charms , but underneath your just the same wh@re as Elizabeth is! All of you killed me.”

“You insulted me, and what are you babbling about?!?!” She asked breathing heavily trying to see my face. “It is dark and I can’t see you, Why are you angry?!”

Lightning flashed. Now is the time. “Don’t you play one of those games with me, your fake. Now is you times to feel pain, a year ago, along with the others, you tore me down, now I tear you down.”

“WILLIAM! WHAT!STOP THIS MINUTE!” She screamed, taking off, throwing her cloak at me to try and stop my stalking. But her scent lingered. I pulled her by her arm and flung her.. She landed with a loud thud and a wail for help. I slapped her , I felt the warm trickle of blood on my hand. I grabbed her wrist where it was and twisted it towards the sky. I felt my teeth grow. I felt the sharp end of my teeth grow and stick out. I sunk my teeth into the flesh of her wrist. Warm blood escaped into my mouth. It tasted bitter and salty. My year of revenge was just beginning.

Her body felt cold now. I held her in my arms for a moment, hearing her words of pain. “I’M SORRY! PLEASE STOP! DON’T HURT ME!! I’LL LEAVE YOU BE!!! PLEASE!!NO!!” She shrieked. I laughed as I spat her blood on her face. Lightning cracked. I saw her face wide-eyed, her blood dripping down anger. I laughed and dropped her, hearing her body land like a rock in water. The others will enjoy her.

“Good-bye, Allison.” I whispered.

I hear light thumps, and the booming voice of Peter. “Allison?” , he shouted. I flung myself upstairs, using all my strength. I landed. Peter turned for I heard the whoosh of his gray jacket. “Who’s there? Elizabeth?” He called weakly. I smiled, standing ever so still. Breathing but not. He walked. The floors creak which frightened him.

“Peter?” I called, antagonizing him.

“William, it is just you. Where is Elizabeth? I must help her, I heard her sc--”

“She is fine now,” I said cutting his off, staring at his shadow. “She’s being prepared for dinner.”

“Oh, okay, well shall we go and meet her?” he said, not understanding my meaning and trying to sound manly.

“But of course I was meaning to get a word with you. Time is runing out. I am dead Peter.” Not letting on.

“WHAT?!?!?!?! YOU FOOL, DON’T LIE!!!” Peter said, being himself.

“Yes!”

“Don’t kid, I’m not in the---”

“No!” I growled. “No!” My voice deepened with anger. “”YOU WITH YOUR BIG HEAD AND INFLUENCE ON PEOPLE!”

“Will--”

“AND YOUR IGNORANT COMMENTS AND JOKES!” I screamed. “No more! A year ago you put me in my grave, now I shall put you in yours!” I howled with laughter.

I heard Peter’s foot steps running. “Elizabeth! Benjamin!” He cried frantically.

I ran and pounced off the wall and landed on Peter’s back. I pushed him on the floor.

“YOU BASTARD!” I cried, pounding my fists on his skull. I sank my teeth into his cheek. He cried in pain. I laughed. “FEEL PAIN!?!?” I screamed. His blood, I felt none. He cried in pain, “WHY? STOP!”. I wrapped my hands around his thraot ever so light. Peter tried to stop the pressure of my hands placed on his vocal chords. Tighter and tighter until I head a crack, a slight gag, and Peter’s hands slipped off mine. “Suffer.” I whispered. “Suffer.”

I walked aimless around the house for a minute. Listening to the sounds. I hear the others feeding now. Allison. But where are Benjamin and Elizabeth?

I walked past the dead room and into the library where I heard a voice.

“Where do you think they are?” Elizabeth asked in a tiny voice.

“Probably messing around,” Benjamin said laughing nervously.

I crept up ever so slightly, my knee hit a table. I moved the table. I moved the table to scare them.

“Must you have Elizabeth, too?” I asked, listening to the rain.

“William?” Elizabeth seemed relieved.

“Yes, darling.”

“Oh , good, we heard Elizabeth scream and --”

“I know,” Cutting her off.

“What happened?” Benjamin asked trying to walk towards my voice in the dark. Trembling for I hear a shake in his voice.

“Yes, Ben, I hear you and them, they’re perfectly fine now, no pain, no fear but I feel all, thanks to you.” I said with a bitter laugh. The lightning ripped through the sky and tore through the rain with a crack, showering light into the library for a brief moment. A tear rolled down my cheek.

“I cry for you; for I know what your fate is, and all of what your tongue has told me, nothing but lies.” I spat walking towards Benjamin, following his trembling footsteps.

“Why, William? I haven’t lied to you, we’re friends. I mean….”

“FRIENDS!? HAHAHAHA!! FRIENDS DON’T LIE, CHEAT OR STEAL!! YOU ARE NO FRIEND NOR WILL YOU EVER BE!!” I bellowed. I felt myself pounce on a table and jump. I landed on the floor. I heard both of their footsteps running away. I heard Benjamin’s heart beat, running.

“Oh Ben scared are you??” I screamed.

“What’s going on?!?!” Elizabeth screamed.

“I’m getting to you!!!” I told her. “Oh Ben, how stupid you were to laugh at me, and what I have become. I hate you.” I told Ben.

I ran and pounced on Ben , who was running rapidly, hurling my entire body on to him. He fell, uttering a soft cry. I turned him over.

“No more FRIEND!” I felt my fangs grow with growing loathing. It’s all over for Benjamin! My teeth ran deep into his throat, he uttered a cry and gave up. A warm spill of liquid ran into my mouth. Salty. As the grave.

I threw the body a side. Three down….one left. The one that I hate the most, the one that deserves all the pain caused.

“Oh Elizabeth” I called out teasingly.

“William , please!? I always have loved you! I didn’t do anything, and if I did , I’m sorry , let me go!!!!” I heard her sobs, they were by the bookcase. “Please…Please I --”

“ELIZABETH!!!! DON’T LIE!! YOU OF ALL THE ONES!!! YOU LIED, AND MOCKED ME! USED ME! AND ABUSED!!! NO MORE NO MORE NO MORE! YOU TORE OUT MY HEART AND I SHALL PAY YOU BACK NOW BY TEARING OUT YOURS!!!!”I shouted.

“No! William please!” She cried.

“Yes, Liz. The time has come.” I said stepping towards the book care. She was hiding. I pushed the bookcase down and she ran out screaming for help. “HELP ME!!!” She screamed frantically, looking for a way out as the book case came tumbling down. “OHHHH! No!” she screamed as the case came crashing down just as she moved out of it’s way.

I ran to her, and grabbed her by the waist and threw her out the window.

“AHHHHHH!!!!!” She screamed in pain, as I heard shards of glass break and her body slamming down on the wet grass. I stepped outside, still dark. I felt the rain. It came down hard, I saw the dirtied white ball skirt of Elizabeth’s dress. Attempting to get up. I placed my foot on her stomach. The heel of my boot placed down hard, make the blood filled wound in her side worsen. She yelped in pain.

“Now dear,” I said grabbing her and pulling her up by her hair. “I knew your deed and now you pay.”

“I’m sorry…” she sobbed, “I’m so sorry!”

“I’m sure you are.” But I felt the all too familira feeling of my growing teeth and and taste for pain. “But now I have a new life, more powerful.”

“What are you?? A zombie?!” she asked, weary with fright.

I looked at her. “No, Elizabeth, a vampire.”

Elizabeth, so shocked. Cried, and tried to get away which only made my anger worse. So, I robbed her of all blood. Hers so sweet, for knowing my revenge was over. But not for what I am. It’s all revenge for I steal to live. Now, I walk to steal blood of the innocent to live. I see nothing but darkness internally and externally. But no more voices, just the tapping of the rain. Tap tap tap.
