djkrisb's Full Review: Sony MDR-V700DJ MDR-V700DJ Studio Monitor Series D...
I have used several different brands of professional DJ headphones over the years, my first being a pair of Sony 700's approximately 7 years ago, which did unfortunately break, as i had them improperly stored in and outer compartment on my DJ bag, and put them in an over head compartment on a plane, to find them broken when I landed. When i had purchased these Sony's the first time, I think i had paid about $135 for them. The price on them has dropped considerably over the years, and in my opinion the build quality has improved, making them an excellent value. My next pair of professional DJ headphones were the higher end Pioneer models, which broke on me several times (see my other reviews if you are curious), and I purchased the Sony MDR-V700's online for around $90. They do fold flat with the swivel for easy travel and storage, have a great ear cover, are lightweight, and have a high DB sound output 50mm drivers with "enhanced bass response". They have a good frequency response (5-30,000 hz), but the sound is slightly colored on these (versus a flat range for studio monitoring), as they are intended for DJ use in clubs (I also own a pair of Sony studio headphone that do have a great flat response). I have had to mix without a monitor in clubs on these, and my Pioneer's, and the slightly larger ear cup on the Sony's was very useful.
