| uglybugg's Full Review: LUSH Snow Fairy Shower Gel |
I am absolutely crazy about sweet smelling bath products. I think its because my personality is all sweetness and light (insert laugh track here) or something. Fortunately for me my favorite bath products company (LUSH) has tons of sweet, pink products to suit my taste. One of those products is Snow Fairy Shower Gel which is exceptionally sweet. It may be too strong for everyone, but for those who are crazy about super sugary sweet things, Snow Fairy may hit the spot.
About Snow Fairy
Snow Fairy comes in a soft, clear plastic bottle with a black screw on cap. My bottle has a black flip top cap but LUSH has recently changed the tops on some of their bottles so if you buy this product in the future you may find that the cap has changed to the more substantial kind that is opened by depressing one side of the cap so the opposite side with the dispensing hole pops up. There is a black label on the front with white writing. As with most LUSH products, there is a sticker on the back which states the date the product was made and the expiration date.
Snow Fairy is a seasonal product and only available during the winter holiday season, so from approximately November through January. Snow Fairy is available in three sizes - 3.3 ounces, 8.4 ounces, and 16.9 ounces which retail for about $8, $14, and $20 each.
LUSH states the following about Snow Fairy shower gel: Snow Fairy shower gel is pink and sparkly so you can flutter around smelling sweet and looking twinkly all through the festive season. You can use it to wash your hair and body and it smells just like our Candy Fluff dusting powder, sweet but sexy.
My experience
Although Ive been a LUSHie for nearly 8 years, this past winter season was my first opportunity to try Snow Fairy. I added it to my birthday list and my husband got me the largest size bottle (gotta love a guy who will walk into LUSH alone). Im a pink lover so I instantly fell in love with the bright, Barbie shade of pink of the gel. When I flipped the cap open and had a sniff I almost fell over with glee. It smelled super sweet and yummy and I could not wait to use it. However upon further inspection there were a few things that I was not happy about with my bottle of Snow Fairy. I was a bit disappointed that it didnt seem to be glittery. Not that Im crazy about glitter, but LUSHs description says that it is sparkly and twinkly so I wanted to actually see sparkle and twinkle. In addition, the consistency of the gel seemed to be a bit on the runny side. But I was already in love with the scent so I tried it the next day and was fairly pleased Snow Fairy in general.
In the shower I use Snow Fairy most often on my shower pouf. I flip the bottle upside down, open the cap, and let some of the gel drizzle onto my pouf. It is actually pretty thin and runny so squeezing the bottle would result in way too much gel being dispensed so drizzling is the only way to go for me. After adding a bit of water and smooshing the pouf a few times the gel works up quickly into a moderate lather. The lather is good enough for cleansing but is not nearly as thick, rich, or creamy as the 3-in-1 products from philosophy and Bath and Body Works. Still, it cleanses well, rinses away easily and completely, and does not dry out my skin or cause any other skin issues. It also does not leave any residual scent on my skin once its rinsed off. It does, however, make the entire upper level of my house smell like candy after Ive used it.
As Im approaching 40, Im actually glad that this product does not leave any kind of glitter or twinkle on my skin. I know that sounds contradictory to the statement made above about being disappointed in not seeing any glitter or twinkle in this shower gel. My point is that LUSH states its in there, I dont see it in there, others have stated they dont see it in there. Bottom line though is that Im too old for glitter and sparkle so Im fine with it not being there but LUSH needs to quit saying its sparkly and twinkly if its not.
LUSH is famous for their highly fragranced products and Snow Fairy is no exception. It is sweet and sugary much like LUSH Rock Star soap but more extremely sweet and sugary. Imagine the scent of all the sugary candy, bubblegum, and fruit in the world condensed into one small bottle. Yeah. It packs a huge sweet punch that can be too sweet at times. I have been using my 16 ounce bottle of Snow Fairy since early December yet Ive still got about half left. I use it about once a week because I rotate it amongst my other shower gels as I cannot stand the sickeningly sweet scent of Snow Fairy every day. If Im the least bit nauseous or tired the scent is too much for me and makes me feel sick. I love the scent, but have to be feeling perfect in order to use it.
The bottle states that I should be able to use Snow Fairy as a shampoo. I typically have had really bad results when trying to use a shower gel as a shampoo, but I wanted to try it to see if the scent would linger on my hair. After cleansing my hair with Snow Fairy it didnt need to be conditioned and the wonderful, sweet scent lingered on my hair all day. What a huge surprise!
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Lauryl Betaine, Perfume, Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Lactic Acid, Synthetic Musk, Cocamide DEA, Titanium Dioxide, Iridescent Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate and Acrylates copolymer), Benzyl Benzoate, FD&C Red No. 4, D&C Red No. 33, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Bottom Line
Although it has some drawbacks, I love the sweet scent of Snow Fairy so I will probably buy a bottle every year for my birthday. Rating this as average due to high price, thin consistency, and the fact that the scent can be overly, sickeningly sweet at times.
