It sounds too good to be true.
For a monthly fee, you can have 3 (or 2 or 8) DVD movies sent to you to keep as long as you want with no late fees, and when you're ready send one back and get another one sent to you. Is this a deal, or what?
Netflix is an internet based service that allows you to have a certain number of DVDs in your possession at any given time (the number depends on what you pay a month). The company has a web site set up where you put films in a rental queue, and as you return films, Netflix sends you the next movie in the queue. Postage is included in the monthly fee, and the movies are shipped with pre-addressed and postage-paid envelopes for return delivery.
You can keep movies as long as you want, or for as short a period of time as you want. So, just because you are on the 3 movie plan doesn't mean you can only rent 3 movies a month. It means you have 3 movies at any given time.
The fees are reasonable. The queue system is easy to use. The selection is huge. There are no late fees. It is really a great deal.
There are a few small negatives. You can't decide one afternoon that you want to see a movie and then see it that night. The turnaround time from receipt of a movie til the time you get the next one is several days. So those impulse rentals don't really work out. Also, there can be a waiting period for hot or new releases. But, this is usually not too long.
The service is probably not for someone who is inclined to only rent a couple of movies a month...the cost would not be justified. But, if you are a regular renter, Netflix is well worth it. The service is downright convenient and easy to use. It's also a good way to explore movies you wouldn't ordinarily rent. Since the queue constantly moves up, you can put in movies that you may want to see that you wouldn't bother picking up at Blockbuster.
I highly reccomend Netflix to film buffs or anyone who routinely rents movies. The convenience makes the service well worth the price of admission.
