Pros: It is fun to read about Laila in the ring.
Cons: The book is only about Laila's experience in the ring. It's not her life story.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this book to anyone that does not know much about Laila Ali.

| gnreview's Full Review: Cindy Dyson - Laila Ali |
This book is 64 pages long with great photos of Laila in the ring. When you start to read, you will read an introduction by Hannah Storm (NBC Studio Host). The title is "Women Who Win". She talks about how popular women are starting to be in sports. The intro has nothing to do with the title of the book, "Laila Ali". However, it is interesting to learn about other women in sports and how well they are doing in this book.
Sneak Peak of Author Lines
In the rest of the book, you will read about Laila Ali in the boxing ring. The description of Laila Ali is very well written on the first page of chapter one. These are the lines of the author: "Laila shrugged off her long, white, hooded robe and ducked under the ropes.....Laila weighed 166 pounds and stood 5 feet, 10-inches tall. She was lean and eager. Beside her April looked flabby and doomed. Laila shut out the cheering fans and her fears and focused on April (her opponent) and the fight ahead." This description is a description of Laila getting ready for the fight.
As you read on, the first chapter describes actions fighting in the ring. The author wrote, " Laila backed her off with straight jabs, then furious combination. Laila moved in for a left right combination to Arpil's jaw, knocking her back. April thudded to the canvas 31 seconds into the fight." To me, the author is like a radio announcer which will keep you reading further.
In chapter one, you will also get to read a few pages about Laila's famous father, Muhammad Ali.
Chapter 2
You will get to read about how Laila was born into boxing royalty in chapter 2. You will read about both of Laila's parents and when they got married, Laila's sister, and when Laila was born.
Chapter 3
In chapter 3, you will learn how difficult it is for female boxers than men and how boxing was banned in some countries altogether. You will learn when women began fighting.
Chapter 4
Chapter 4 is my favorite part of the book. Here is when you read about Laila's plans to become a fighter. You will read about her ex-husband (Laila's assistant manager & trainer) and how she first met him.
Chapter 5
In chapter 5, you will read about Laila Ali practice in the gym. You will also read about her fight with Karen Bill. This is where Laila hits the mat and was caught off gaurd. I think it was her toughest fight.
Chapter 6
This chapter mentions how Laila starts drawing crowds.
Chapter 7
Old memories will come back to you in chapter 7. If you have seen Laila fight Jacqui Frazier, you might enjoy this chapter.
