Pros: I did get a few good tips from the handouts.
Cons: This is clearly a scam to take everyone's money. Get the info online.
The Bottom Line: This is clearly a scam to take people's money. Do your research with any conference and don't get duped.

| vherzog's Full Review: The Grant Institute |
It is apparent that this whole operation is one big scam. Between what we experienced this week, our conversations with our instructor, other postings on this website, and complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau, it is clear that this is an intentional scam.
The Grant Institute seems to intentionally hire instructors at the last minute, knowing that they won't be very good with very little time to prepare and little to no direction from the institute, other than some prepared power points. The attendees then get frustrated with the poor course and write letters to complain about the instructor and ask for a refund. Nobody seems to get a refund, but the instructor doesn't get paid because of the complaints. At $600/person for the conference, they made about $18K off our conference.
Our instructor told us that he was contacted out of the blue to teach this conference. They contacted him on a Saturday before an 8-5, Mon-Wed workshop. The instructor is made to look like the bad guy instead of the Institute. Our instructor did have some grant-writing experience, but was definitely not prepared to teach this workshop.
This is a huge waste of time and money.
If you're looking for something else, I have heard that the Council on Undergraduate Research puts on good grant-writing conferences.
