Different, a little odd, but totally worth releasing.

The only Fiona Apple track I've heard was her cover of Across the Universe on the Pleasantville soundtrack, but I really liked her style.

wow, i'm not a huge fiona fan, but it is ridiculous to not release a completed album. and it couldn't be worse than some of the other music out there. hopefully someone will realise how many people want to hear this album, and it'll see the light of day.

nice to see you writing!

I knew the title and tentative release of the album, but had no idea that record execs were not releasing it. It's presumptuous of these suit monkeys to decide what the public's musical taste should be.

Thanks for the review. Now I wonder if there are black market copies available to buy.

people would appreciate this review. Great job, Robin. Now if only we would get another Fiona album I'd be happy.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, it was one of those albums that was iffy. Thankfully it got released, because that's actually the album that made me a huge fan

Well, I reckon that makes two of us!

So far it looks like there are two comments from people saying they didn't know Fiona came out with a new album, and they'll have to check it out...

Guys - she DIDN'T come out with a new album. It's not released.

Read the review please (and let me know if you catch a typo).

Yeah, typo.

I have strep and mono, so cut me a little.

Thanks, though.

I feel your pain. It sucked that only like what 4 people? showed up to the big Sony records Fiona protest. Ok, I think it was snowing and super cold, but still.

I'm the biggest Fiona fan, but I understand Sony's thinking even though I'm unhappy with it. You also mentioned in your review So, where has Fiona Apple been since Tidal's 1999 release....

I think you mean Pawn, Tidal hit in the summer of 1996....

I didn't ever get much into her first album, but everyone tells me I would probably like her second more (I still haven't gotten around to listening to that one yet). I wasn't aware of the release date for the third one, so it was nice to come across your review.

That was a good review, X. Keep 'em comin', and I mean that in a good, non-perverse way.

I happened to hear Used to Love Him a few weeks back, and I'd love to hear the rest of the album.

Sony did almost the same thing with Wheatus' second album, only in that case the did release it but gave it no promotion whatsoever, letting it die on the vine. Fortunately, Wheatus' record did find its way out on their own private label after a while, so there's still a little hope that Fiona's latest works may still find there way out to the public.

Great review of a great album! Knowing that Fiona was working with Jon Brion, I can't imagine how Sony was expecting an album with that obvious "mainstream appeal." Like you stated in your review, Fiona wasn't exactly dishing out bubblegum tracks on her previous albums, and yet she's sold millions. Methinks labels are rather slow learners. Anywho, excellent job! :o)

Exactly - why would they doubt her now? Maybe it's Andrew Lack - the new Sony chairman - I don't know, but freefiona.com is actually making a lot of progress and I think that's awesome.

I remember around two years ago, everybody was like "When is Fiona's next album going to be released?"

When I found Free Fiona, I was pretty much shocked that they were holding back a completed album.

I don't understand them - at least release the album and let the fans decide on their own if they like what they hear, or let Fiona take Machine and be free. Now Sony has just made themselves look stupid in the eyes of Fiona fans.

And considering both of her albums have sold millions, she must have a fanbase out there somewhere that's eagerly to hear Machine for themselves.

But I'm so glad you got to hear it! I hope it gets released someday, because Fiona is also one of my favorites (and I agree that people need to stop hating on her so much, because she's had to deal with a lot).
