AOL is so easy to use no wonder its number one. True enough. So easy to use its allowing people who can barely turn on their computer access to the internet so that they can reply and forward email chain letters, engage their 100y/o grandmothers who it seems is more internet savvy then they are in chat about the weather, and now it seems give them a messenger to annoy people around the world not only on that simpleton network that killed the BBS but also to annoy people who use a real internet provider who mistakenly download and use this thing.
I must admit that I did download and try this program. It functioned as well as it was designed, but YIM or even ICQ was 100 times better than this program. My reason for downloading it was for its file transferring ability because ICQ was too much of a system hog for my taste and at the time YIM did not offer that function, which thank god it does now!
Another reason why I prefer YIM or ICQ to AIM is that with those two services I can send offline messages and check on all user info. With AIM I can only check on AIM users, not AOL users that are using that service. Thats a load. For offline messages, as a nice little pop-up appears for YIM and ICQ does something similar when I logon. Nothing for AIM, nothing.
