Riding In Comfort

Written: Oct 13 '01
  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
Pros:Easy To Fold, Easy To Steer, Big Basket, 3 Drink Holders, Comfortable Padding.
Cons:Feeder Tray On The Ground When Folded, No Back Pocket, No Non-Reversible Handle
The Bottom Line: Good, smooth riding stroller at a decent price.

Way back in the early 1990's my sister had a stroller called the Graco Sport. This stroller was pretty basic. Nothing fancy, but it did have a reversible handle and it seemed pretty durable. That's when it came time for me to buy a stroller for my baby, I decided to go with Graco.

I found my stroller at Target. It's the Graco Lite Rider with the "Meet Me On Safari" print. The price was nice ($79.99) and I was really attracted to those big back wheels and the big basket underneath! I told my husband that I just had to have it!

My husband had to do a little assembly on it once we got it home (The wheels, footrest, and feeder tray had to be put on), but it was pretty easy and only took about 20 minutes.

The first time we used it was when we took out 2 month old son to the mall. I put him in it and was dismayed to discover that the seat doesn't recline all the way down. And there is no back pocket. Then I realized that the lap harness was hard to tighten. Then I realized that the handle isn't reversible. I have to see my child through a "window" in the canopy. I guess I just thought every stroller had that feature. I guess that will teach me to read descriptions a little better!

But my son seemed to like his new stroller. The padding is very nice. I really like how he seems to be riding in comfort. The big basket underneath was great for holding our shopping bags and a small diaper bag. And my husband and I really like the drink holders (it has 3). Those big wheels really go over just about anything without getting stuck (this was tested in the parking lot. It went over all sorts of cracks and crevices without stuck!). It's very smooth. It is also very easy to steer.

It is very easy to fold. But I don't like how the feeder tray rests on the ground when it is folded. It is also very bulky in my trunk. It takes up a lot of space.

We have taken our son out in it many times since then and we really do like this stroller. The lack of a reversible handle does still bother me, though. I took my son out for a walk the other day and a gust of wind came up and blew the canopy back. I had to hold the canopy down until I managed to get him home! If it had a reversible handle, that wouldn't have happened.

All in all, though, it's a good stroller for the price. It suits our needs. I just hope it's durable!
