The ONLY vacuum to buy.

I had a Sears canister vacuum for years as did my Mom. Mine finally died after 15 years and was not worth repairing.
I have always likes the power and versatility of the Sears model so I went back to Sears to find a new one. I was shocked at the price but knew I would not have to replace it for many years. I must admit that I did not but it right away. More on that in a minute!
I did finally buy it and am glad I did. This is a very powerful vacuum with a lot of features. The hand-held Powermate is great for upholstery. The attachments are always handy and work well. This vacuum is the only one I have ever seen that can pull dirt from the sides. It's great for going along the baseboards and getting all the dirt that manages to get trapped there. I have a cat so the litter sometimes makes its way to the baseboards. Also it does not shoot the litter out the back of the vacuum like some cleaners.
Now about the price. I happened to be in a Sears parts store and noticed the same $499 vacuum in a damaged box for $169.00. Needless to say I grabbed it. I also purchased a Eureka Dirt Devil Upright for my upstairs at K-Mart and must admit that this vacuum is a big piece of junk. The Sears model runs circles around this thing. There really is no comparison.
This is my second Sears canister model and I'm very glad to have it. I am not always a fan of Sears products but this is the best vacuum out there.
