I used Hotel Club to book a hotel in Trujillo for a Spanish trip May 2008. I paid, received a written confirmation no problem. I turned up at Trujillo, and couldn't find the hotel, so went to the tourist information. They informed me that the hotel did not exist, but after using the internet they found the hotel - in PERU ! I looked again at the booking confirmation, which made no mention of the country - the only clue to the hotel not being in Spain was the international dialling code for the hotel - not a thing you would easily spot if you weren't looking for it.
I got to the hotel by searching "hotel Trujillo" in Google, and to be fair to Hotel Club it does say "Peru" in small writing at the top of the hit page, but again easily overlooked (as happened in my case). Hotel Club have refused a refund, although in my view if they had included the country in which the hotel was situated on the booking confirmation I would have spotted the error immediately.
So my advice when booking with Hotel Club is to be sure that you have the correct country - don't rely on the confirmation booking. My advice to Hotel Club - bring in a better search engine and make it very clear on the hit site where the hotel is sited, and on the confirmation booking print the full address of the hotel including the country.
