Star Wars Tag and Bink Were Here: May the Farce Be With You.

Written: Jun 04 '08 (Updated Mar 14 '09)
The Bottom Line: A lighthearted parody of Star Wars focusing in on the everyday working Joes like you and me.

Star Wars Tag & Bink Were Here Written by Kevin Rubio Pencils by Lucas Marangon.

Star Wars is the story of heroes, figures of myth, the stuff of legends…Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa. They are friends of exceptional beings, Obi-Wan Kenobi*, Chewbacca, R2D2…

But what about the other people in the universe? Have you ever wondered who were the guys shooting at the Imperials while Princess Leia was loading the plans for the Death Star into R2D2? Who was flying that TIE fighter through the wreckage of Alderaan? What were the names of the two guys discussing the new B-16 while Obi-Wan turned off the tractor beams? Who flew wingman for Darth Vader when he tried to stop Luke from blowing up the Death Star? Who shot C3PO in Cloud City?

The answer to all these questions are…Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna.

Tag and Bink are just two average guys. They aren’t particularly retarded, but things just seem to happen to them. If there is a choice that offers peace and serenity, and one that guarantees you a ringside seat for watching a Hutt freeze a smuggler in Carbonite, guess which one they will make? They are always getting shot at, but never getting shot. They are walking examples of Murphy’s Law.

It is very much like Tag and Bink are the collective proof the Force has a sense of humour.

For instance…Tag and Bink, rebels all the way, have spent the last while impersonating Storm Troopers on the Death Star, and they realize their luck can’t hold out forever. They decide to leave. In what? Well, how about an Imperial Shuttle? Can they fly one?

Bink: “What’s to know? This baby practically flies itself. And this is going to be our ticket back into the Rebellion.”
Tag: “How you figure that?”
Bink: “Well, if you desert your ship like we did, you’re an outcast. But if you desert your ship because it was all part of some secret mission to capture an imperial shuttle for a covert operation…then you’re a hero!”
Tag: “But we didn’t…. HEeeyyy! Good One!”
Imperial Flight Control: “Shuttle Tydirium, you are not authorized to leave the flight bay. Return at once. This is your first and final warning!”

See? Shuttle Tydirium, from episode six. Didn’t you ever wonder where exactly they got their rebellious little hands on an imperial shuttle?

There is a lot of tongue in cheek humour here, (Manny Both-Hands) and slapstick. It will mostly appeal to the Star Wars geek, but the Force knows, there are a lot of us out there, and we are ripe for parody. It’s a riot.

It’s not canon, its not necessary to understand the overall saga, it’s just fun. There are no lessons here, no wisdom, just the Star Wars equivalent of empty junk food calories for your funny bone. Check it out.
