Nixon Player watch

Written: Jun 04 '08
Pros:Attractive, real diamond, hardened scratch resistant mineral crystal.
Cons:Poor customer service, band is susceptible to scratching. Reliability issues with timekeeping.
The Bottom Line: If you're planning on purchasing the Nixon Player, buy it from a reputable brick-and-mortar store with a good return policy, rather than from Nixon itself.

I received the Nixon Player watch in Silver, with a stainless steel band for my 30th birthday from my sister. My sister purchased the watch directly from Nixon's website, at a price of $200.00 She recently moved and no longer has the electronic reciept. I have owned the watch for about 6 months now.

The good:

The watch is beautiful looking, stainless steel band and hardened mineral crystal, which makes the crystal (the clear cover) resistant to scratching. The watch has a real diamond in it, and is attractive, comfortable, and has a double locking clasp. It has three hands, hour, minute, and second. I have received compliments on this watch on many occasions. A friend of mine owns a Nixon, and he has had it for 2 years, the watch has never had an issue for him. I, however, was not so lucky. Read on.

The bad:

After a few days of use, I noticed the time was off by about 15 minutes. I reset it. A few days later, it was off again, this time by 35 minutes. I reset it again, and sent Nixon an email enquiring about warranty. I have not received an email back from Nixon to date. In fact, I have sent a total of 5 emails and have never recieved any correspondance back from Nixon. I brought my watch in for a battery replacement, but it still loses time without any reason. Sometimes, it goes as long as two weeks without missing a beat, but then its out again by 10-15 minutes. Due to the fact that the watch was purchased online from Nixon, and Nixon will not respond to my emails, I am stuck with a $200 timepiece which will not keep reliable time. Obviously, no matter what you buy, sometimes you can have an issue with a purchase. The concern here is poor customer service. The other issue is the stainless steel strap. It has several scratches on it now, and I am not overly hard on my watch. The strap is not scratch resistant.

Overall, it is a nice looking watch at a reasonable price. I just wish Nixon would respond to my emails and help me with my problem. I would have to reluctantly give this watch a poor review.
