The Bottom Line If yous seriously want to start a collection, go right ahead. I will help you.

Let's face it, Black Metal was never exactly, "in". In fact, for years, the sales of Black Metal records was limited to small mail order around the world. Mayhem had only one thousand copies of "Deathcrush" made, and if you wanted a copy, it was recommended to contact the damn band yourself! Then, with the wake of the Varg Vikernes trial {Vikernes, a somewhat insane nazi, was once a member of Mayhem. Before starting his one-man pursuit, Burzum. He stabbed Mayhem guitarist, "Euronymous", to death, after a small argument. Then went to a horrid Norwegian prison, were he released several album. More important, was the fact that Vikernes had burnt down several of Norway's historic wooden churches. This was not unlike the incident, in which former Emperor drummer, "Faust" had stabbed a homosexual to death in the park, for no real reason. Now, Emperor has sold more than 500,000 copies, and recieved a cultural award.}

Now, Black Metal has had great exposure, and you can order "Deathcrush", off of Amazon.com! Yet, there is still those creepy guys, who only purchase mail-ordered bootlegs of demos, of bands, that you have never heard of. Demo's, and EP's are hard to find. Therefore, I have constructed a guide, so that you can go start your collection:

Here is, the TOP 10 BLACK METAL DEMO'S and EP'S !!!
{Band name first, demo/EP title second}

10} Emperor - As the Shadows Rise EP, 1994

What is there to say about an EP, that came out the same year as their classic, "In The Nightside Eclipse"? Well, I can say that it's actually quite good. Actually, the three songs, are taken from the "Wrath of the Tyrant" demo, so why put it here? Well, it is recorded with better sound. Difficult to find this one. Which is odd for Emperor, one of the most popular Black metal bands in history.
Songs:
"Witches Sabbath" is the reason this EP deserves to be heard

9} Gorgoroth - A Sorcery Written in Blood, Demo, 1993

Gorgoroth is known for visiting the late Pope John Paul II's hometown in Poland, and spilling goat blood all over the stage and fans. And setting up up-side-down crosses all over! Then going into hiding, from the Polish police.
This poor-quality piece of junk, is truly going to prove that to you! A must have!
The entire thing is less than ten minutes long, and it sucks! But it's worth it to see how the band began.

8} Mayhem - Deathcrush, EP

There is one reason this isn't at the number one spot, and that is: What "Self-respecting Black Metal Fan" has not heard this already? I'm not even going to bother writing a caption for this. Go find a review somewhere. Don't even bother with that, just go out and buy it.

7} Mayhem - Wolf's Lair Abyss, EP

This is just so evil, hateful, and misanthropic. You would probably cry from it. "Hellhammer"'s drumming is just unbelievable. Pure "hell hammering". {I know, I know. That wasn't funny} "Maniac" filled in vocals well enough. "Blasphemer"'s guitars were good for an EP. Four powerful songs make up this EP. Defintley worth it.

6} Behemoth - ...From The Pagan Vastlands, 1993

"Thy Winter Kingdom"? "The Dance of The Pagan Flames"? Yes, that's right, this is Polish metal kings Behemoth. They were once "true" Black Metal. And hilarious at that. But they weren't bad. The vocals were much different: sounding like screaming whispers. That goes well with the blasting-out sounding instrumentals. The first song "From the Hornedland to the Lindisfarne" is strong. With classical guitar chords, before pounding like any second-wave Black Metal can. Only I wish they sung in Polish.

5} Zyklon B - Blood Must Be Shed, 1995

Holy Hell! What is this? What am I listening to? These are the sort've thing that you can expect from a Black Metal disk. I am sure that most of you have never heard of these satanic freaks, and maybe you don't want to. It all starts with "Mental Orgasm", which starts with blasting drums. So fast, it is hard to hear. Really. "Bloodsoil" and "Warfare" aren't that different, so they aren't important.

4} Darkthrone - A New Dimension , 1988

This sucks so bad, you just need it. Ha. These two guys look, and sound funny, though.

3} Necrofeast - Demo 1, 1992

Dutch pagans? Alright. I knew them for years. And I never liked them. But this demo is some of the most low-fi Black metal you could find. That is why it's is so high on the list. This isn't a list about good Black Metal. {though there is some good crap. like Emperor, and Mayhem}this is a buying guide, for people who want a Black Metal collection. Or, for you guys who just are interested by this top-10.

2}Immortal - Immortal, EP

I admit, that I used to like these guys. Their whole, "cold, winter metal" thing always used to amaze me. And here is an EP. Merry god d*mn winter. The production is so bad, yet it still has that good ol' Immortal "feeling". Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism is the intro track, then going into Unholy Forces of Evil. Which is as amazing as it sounds. And finally, "The Cold Winds of Funeral Frost", I repeat, "The Cold Winds of Funeral Frost" ends this hilarious little disk.

1} Dawn - Sorgh pa Svarte Vingar Flogh, EP, 1996

The title is Swedish for "Sorrow Flew on Black Wings", yet, the reason this is number one, is because this is actually good. Usually, Dawn is a boring and repetitive band. Yet here, they shine in black .{yes, it's not funny} It is all just under 25 minutes long, and is a good ride. Perhaps the finest Melodic Black Metal around. "Soil of Dead Earth" is among my favorite songs around. Truly worth it, to buy.

So, what have I learned? Well, this was done in short periods over four days. And I also, learned that it may have been worth it. I now realise how dislike most Black Metal. Only a certain few {Emperor, Unlord, Mayhem, Behemoth,old Marduk, Opthalamia, and some Immortal} really entertain me anymore.
