The Bottom Line Less Than Jake can never disappoint, and still in mind are one of the greatest band to ever see play in a concert.
It was amazing. I haven't seen Less Than Jake in two years and I've never seen Allister. One thing I have to say is Northern Lights is a great place to have a show. It's a bar with a stage in the corner and I've always felt that concerts like these vs. concerts in stadiums are better cause you actually feel like you're in the concert and not just watching it from a far view. The first band up was These Green Eyes. I'm pretty sure they're one of JR's bands, being they were from Connecticut and that JR had their shirt on during the show. They weren't that bad for only having 15 minutes to play. Kane Hodder was probably the worst band there. They didn't seem to fit in. Had this been a show with Aleixsonfire, they would've probably looked pretty good, but screamo bands can't compare to Less Than Jake and Allister. But they still have one of the greatest names for a song (I Think Patrick Swayze Is Sexy). Hidden in Plain View wasn't that bad. They weren't stuff you'd go crazy to, but they were still pretty good. They played some stuff off of their album they just let out, including Garden Statement, which is about their home state of New Jersey. Allister was amazing. By then, 40 people there for the first band had turned into about 200-300 people, and the place started to rock. Allister came out with Radio Player, which has one of the catchiest chorus' ever. They played some stuff off of Dead Ends and Girlfriends and two new songs, including D2, which has turned into one of my favorite songs. They also played Waiting for You, Scratch, Somewhere on Fullerton, and None of My Friends Are Punks, where the band had literally ever person in the place mosh for the whole song (which they said was exactly 32 seconds). They ended their set with Overrated, one of my favorite songs by them. Finally, Less Than Jake, the main event, came out. After hiding behind the back curtain until everything was ready, they came out to some Hip Hop clue. I have no clue what it was; but it got everyone in the place jumping and then right as the music turned off they came out with How's My Driving, Doug Hastings?, a song I've never heard them start off with. As it went into My Own Flag and further into the set, they place got crazier. Edventually, half the people in the place were moshing to Last One Out of Liberty City and Just Like Frank. Truly an active crowd. But Less Than Jake seemed a little off. Either they were still pretty rusty, they're were messed up, or the equipment was screwed up. Chris even said it was a first when some kid yelled, "F*** THE SOUNDGUY!!," a little bit into the set, saying he has never heard someone swear at the soundguy before. Chris sounded more like he did on Losing Streak with a higher voice and the lowest note of the concert was when Roger messed up the intro to Last One Out of Liberty City. Still, even if they didn't play as great as they had in past shows, they still knew how to get the crowd pumped, even though they had never played Northern Lights before. Chris even told his story about the legend of the Catskill Mountains and also tried a few of his jokes. As far as getting the crowd participation, it really only happened when Roger and JR tried to see who's side could do better with the Woah's before History of a Boring Town. The moment of the show had to be when Chris grabbed his acoustic to the play The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out and the place stopped moshing and everything to sing along. Even a few liters made it in the air. By the time the band came out to play Screws Fall Out, the place was on its feet again. For the setlist, I was suprised that All My Best Friends Are Metalheads and Plastic Cup Politics weren't played. But seeing that they didn't play half the songs they played on the Projekt Revolution Tour last year, I can see that they might've been sick of these songs. Still though, the picks from each album was a good variety, and My Own Flag is still the classic that never gets old. I was also happy that they played some songs that used to be everynight songs that they haven't played in the last couple years; Automatic, Sugar in Your Gas Tank, Last One Out of Liberty City. Setlist: How's My Driving, Doug Hastings? My Very Own Flag Sugar in Your Gas Tank Bridge and Tunnel Authority Look What Happened A Still Life Franchise(New Song) Last One Out of Liberty City Just Like Frank Nervous in the Alley Automatic Lockdown Welcome to the New South Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts Al's War History of a Boring Town National Anthem Escape From the A-Bomb House The Ghosts of Me and You The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out Screws Fall Out Gainesville Rock City The Science of Selling Yourself Short |
