The Bottom Line I hope many people honor Lemon Lime's write off.
What are your spiritual beliefs or religious affiliations? I am a protestant Christian. As a child attended Methodist church. As an adult joined Missouri Synod Lutheran church dropped it. In Mississippi and in North Carolina attended Baptist church a few times. In Knoxville have attended Evangelical church a few times. Am not a regular church goer. I believe I can sit on our front porch and watch the sun go down, and be with my God in church. What is your sexual orientation? Heterosexual How do you see your own religious/spiritual views as influencing your opinion of sexuality? I dont feel that my spiritual views have any influence on my opinion of sexuality. If we take every word in the bible literally, we would have slaves, if affluent we would dress in scarlet, and women would be chattels. The Bible was written by men, in different time frames, and men are human and subject to certain errors. How do you define marriage? Marriage is a union between two people who acknowledge their love for each other and their desire to spend their life together. Heterosexuals have the advantage of being able to produce children. What thoughts or reactions do you have to these two pictures? (all completely safe for work, home etc. 1.This is a picture of two men standing in front of what looks like a Justice of Peace going through a ceremony. I have no special reaction. 2. This is kind of a sweet picture of two elderly women who I think are trying to insure their right to be at each others side in a hospital situation, and the right to secure possessions for each other if one should die. So? How does one of Christian faith reconcile these two pictures? Is one right and one wrong? 1. Both are wrong, I think. Name calling or sign waving wont change anyones mind. It might intimidate them, but it cannot change them. In my case, I feel disgust when I see something like that. Why do you think the topic of homosexuality is so polarizing in religious communities? I think it is a question of follow the leader. Perhaps it is attitudes carried down from previous generations or the fact that some religious groups have picked certain topics from the bible to adhere to, but have chosen to ignore others. And then politicians have used it to garner votes. Should the government be in the business of defining marriage? Why or why not? No. To be honest, I have yet to see any politician of either party that I feel is capable of making such a decision. I think it should concern the peope involved and it is really not the business of any one else. As long as they are not trying to change me, why should I, {or anyone else] try to change them? Would you support the legalization of gay marriage? Yes, I think so. If you answered no, what are your fears behind its legalization? If you answered yes, what are your fears behind it remaining illegal?, I feel everyone has the right to make their own decision. Marriage would give Gay people the same rights as the rest of us have insurance rights, property and tax rights, and the right to be admitted to the hospital in case of serious illness as a family member. Would you support government-sanctioned civil unions between homosexual couples? Sure, why not? It might pacify the Church objections. Do you see any way of bridging this current divide in our country over "wedge issues" like gay marriage or abortion? Or should we even be trying? Perhaps education is the answer. I have been told that sexual orientation is often not acquired, but something one is born with, and will have always. Some people think that homosexuals are pedophiles. Perhaps those that are homosexuals should make sure that their views are publicized more through education, and let their voices heard as often as their nay sayers are heard. What do you see America's view of homosexuality and gay marriage being in 100 years from today? What will those future Americans think of us in 2005, as they look back? Gosh I dont know. I hope that 2005 might be the dawn of objectivity. In 100 years we might be bouncing around through the galaxy and producing little lizard babies (I believe there was once a Sci Fi series that featured that idea.) Final thoughts or ideas: Live and let live. To each his own. Show respect for the other guy's point of view. Personally I will respect anyones religious views as long as they respect mine. One of our EP friends had a good review that said a lot in a humorous way that you might want to check out. http//www:epinions.com/content _3588880272772 I think Lemon Lime deserves a thank you for sponsoring this survey.
