All proceeds (and some extra) from this review will benefit little 15 month old Emily Rose, the daughter of Epinion member, ImAmes. She has retniblastoma, a form of cancer in the eye. This is a part of the When You Wish Upon a Star Write Off hosted by lisa_j and opalman. This is my first write off ever.
When I first heard about little Emily's story I knew that I wanted to do something to help. I am blessed by God to have two healthy children. I hope and pray that Emily will do well in her surgery in November. I told my 7 year old son, Aaron, about Emily and explained to him how lots of people write things to help out a certain cause. He thought it was a such a neat idea. So we headed out to the library together to find the perfect Disney book.
When we saw Pooh's Wishing Star by Bruce Talkington I knew that was the book for us. We brought it home and I read it to Aaron, who thoroughly enjoyed it. My 10 month old, Allen, didn't listen quite as well. *grin* The book is illustrated by John Kurtz. All of the artwork was prepared using watercolor and pencil. I must say that he did an excellent job. The pictures appear so real and are all of great quality. All of the illustrations are in color. Aaron was fascinated with all of the artwork.
~~Now on to the book~~
The story starts out on a quiet night when Christopher Robin showed Pooh Bear his very own wishing star. Pooh was very impressed. You had to say the wishing rhyme for it to work.
Flap like a bird,
Jump like a fish,
Stand Up, Sit down,
Wish-Wish-WISH!
Of course you know what Pooh wished for, a pot of honey. Then he decided to wish for one for all of his friends. Christopher Robin warned him that the star was small and that too many wishes would wear it out.
So the next day Pooh wanted to go back to the wishing star, but he couldn't remember the rhyme. He came up with several different things, but none were right. He told Piglet his trouble and they went to see Tigger. The three of them tried to figure out what it could be. Next they went to see Rabbit. Everyone had their ideas on how to make Pooh remember. Rabbit tried to scare his memory back. Tigger told Pooh to stand on his head. They tied a hot water bottle to his head to help warm the memories up. Finally it came back to him!
So off they went to find the wishing star. All the friends were wishing away. Pooh shut his eyes and started wishing too, only to open his eyes to find no star there. The star had been wished out. Pooh decided to try to fill all of his friends' wishes himself. He got tired quick.
Pooh was worried about how Christopher Robin was going to feel once he found out the star was gone. So Pooh dressed up as a star and decided to act as The Wishing Star. He ended up getting stuck dangling from a tree. Pooh told Christopher Robin that for tonight he was The Wishing Star. Christopher Robin recited the rhyme wishing to have his best friend beside him. Pooh fell off the branch and landed in Christopher Robin's arms. Christopher Robin got his wish. Both Pooh and Christopher Robin thanked The Wishing Star for their wish had came true~they had each other!

This is an excellent book. It is good for reading to an older child. It is pretty long and a younger child might get bored sooner. My 7 year old loved it and enjoyed sitting right through and listening to all of it.
~~Thanks for reading~~
