Unreal Tournament - One Step Ahead

Written: Oct 16 '01
Pros:Nice Arenas, Great Weapons, Many modes, Stunning Graphics, Awesome Gameplay
Cons:Multiplayer deathmatch isn't as much fun as QIII
The Bottom Line: Brilliant game.. Great job, Epic. Buy this game now.. you don't know what you're missing.

Modes

Unreal Tournament has progressed a lot when compared to the original Unreal. It's shifted it's focus from the single player adventure game to the violent, thrilling deathmatch for single as well as multiplayer. Some other modes have also been thrown in like assault, domination, which are equally fun and lacking in QIII Arena. Even the modes which are present in QIII Arena like capture the flag, etc have been created better in UT. In UT, there is more team co-ordination and all the modes are more refined than Quake's . In Quake, you basically select a player and are then thrown into an arena of senseless violence..oh yeah and fun too. The single player focuses more on training an individual for the multiplayer deathmatch version of the game. Assault is a great mode involving two teams. While one team has to accomplish a mission, the other team tries to prevent it from doing so. After the first team is done achieving it's target or time runs out, the second team plays and the first team defends. Different maps have different objectives, like you may have to destroy a control center, destroy computers, etc.. Great fun.

Graphics, Gameplay, Maps, Sound, Weapons and the kitchen sink..

Everything else in the game is also great. The graphics is simply amazing, better than Quake in my opinion and the best thing is everyone is a person..you don't have weird creatures like in Quake III Arena. The gameplay is great and the weapons are simply amazing. Every weapon can be used in two different ways. For eg, the rocket launcher can be used to fire a rocket or throw a rocket which explodes after a few seconds. This is an amazing part of the game, i.e. the fact that every weapon can be used in two different ways. The weapons themselves are also amazing..I mean you never feel that a weapon is bad and that you're as good as dead with it. By the way, another really cool feature of the rocket launcher is that you can shoot up to 5 rockets at a time. The sound in this game is also great and the best part is that there are voice-overs, i.e. the bots talk and act like big studs and say crap..yes, you can hear them, you don't have to look at the top of your screen and look for some words.

What's Wrong with the game ?

Good question..The answer - nothing. However, the multiplayer deathmatch isn't as much fun as QIII..can't figure out why.

Quake III or Unreal Tournament ??

Definetely Unreal Tournament.. unless you're a MAJOR fan of the multiplayer deathmatch and love ID Software and are infatuated with Quake since version 1. Otherwise, you should get Unreal Tournament.
